So, uh, about last Nintendo video...

I don't fully get that "Mother/Earthbound vibe" from it but there's never 0% chances.
i've never played a game in the series, but i have seen some videos about earthbound, and the game starts off fairly normal and then eventually goes off rails into being crazy. that's really the only thing that makes me think of it being a possibility.
we will just have to wait and see what nintendo is working on and if this video actually means anything, or if they are just giving some publicity to an animation company that they are working with.

no, they aren't. pikmin takes place on earth long after humans no longer live there, and it's implied that olimar's people are descended from humans; they got much smaller over a vast period of time.

yeah, and i never thought that nintendo would release bayonetta games on their systems. that happened, so; however unlikely it is, it is possible for them to be working on something related to the mother series.
Apparently that isn't true. In Pikmin 2 you actually explore the same environments from the first game, only changed because of the different season and because of human activity. The intention wasn't a post-apocalypse, but an "Arrietty" kind of scenario

No way this is Mario Galaxy Movie. It has that distinctively japanese artstyle. Kinda like Wonderful 101 or Baland Wonderworld and not that signature (and downright terrible imo) Illumination style.

i've played a lot of both games. a lot of the storytelling is both passive and implied. and it is possible that time and space is warped on PNF-404, allowing for both humans to exist, but not notice the pikmin or the captains in the game, and the opposite is true as well.
but pikmin has always had a post-apocalyptic feel to it. with hints at something more sinister lurking behind the events of the games.
but my main reason for coming back to this thread at the moment was to post a link to a piktuber who has checked out this very video as well.

Sorry but it strikes me more as a faux Pixar style.

Update: it's Pikmin.

Ngl? With fully visible Pikmins this short feels so much better.

Update: it's Pikmin.

I feel all this (weird ass) marketing was to confirm that Pikmins are indeed invisible to humans.

A new game? From Nintendo? Do they still have it in them? And they're never, ever touching Mother again. Forget about it.

The only thing they could to with that franchise is simply localizing Mother 3...or remaking the Mother trilogy in the best case. It's all in Itoi's hands and if the guy doesn't want to do anything about the series, then we can all happily accept it's done. Dunno why you would think of that series, of all ones they did that are still taking dust (F-Zero, Chibi-Robo, Dillon).

I kinda wish they waited another day to let fans speculate before finally re-releasing that one.

I do miss weird marketing for games in an era where everything has become standard (yes, even Nintendo lacked that originality for a while after the Wii U's end).

It reminds me of Bananza's ad feeling like a 90's (to early 00's) one.

Yeah, with Iwata it was immensely all done with much more creativity and love.

Ech, during Iwata's era there were those lame Wii U commercials.

I am wondering if we'll see Pikmin 5 getting unveiled soon.

Yeah maybe. The point is. It's not Illumination. No way

And you're correct. It's done by that other studio that made these Pikmin shorts long ago. I guess they're relegated to them lol

Point still stands. Even with the weird choices they made, it was all done with much more passion, you would deny that?

Even if it is a Mother game, unless Shigesato Itoi is coming out of retirement I really really really don't want a new one and idk why anyone would be excited for it aside from "omg brand I recognize"... Which I guess describes a lot of gamer's mentality towards IP so yea ig it would excite people after all.

Which was criticised by folks for ages. I thought that it was a good thing to listen to people.

Sure. I have no issue with Nintendo being original or unoriginal at this point. Hell, my biggest criticism when it comes to the games themselves is how much of their legacy library they've neglected (to the point that the FAST series has basically become the in-place replacement for F-Zero).

I'm still waiting for another Nintendo Wars game dammit!

With the NoA president change maybe this marks a new start. Mario's movie was probably the first step already.

I agree with this. When people say Nintendo is trying to become the Disney of video games, it really does feel like they're taking that route especially hard right now. Kinda feels like they've always have been. Mario & Peach/Link and Zelda have always been a bit of a "Mickey and Minnie" analog really.

Then I'd rather have them experiment over running head down in the wrong direction.

Seems like they're doing exactly that at the moment. Xbox as a whole has basically been (or at least became) an experiment unto itself. From Xbox One onward it definitely feels like that's what they're doing with it. Like they've moved away from a traditional console system at that point. Time will tell if it gives/keeps a space in the market for them or if it puts the entire gaming division up in flames.

It would be very weird if the part of Microsoft that made DONKEY.BAS disappears after all this time.

On the other hand I'm wondering what's Sony big plan for the next gen and if they plan on trying something new.

Same as Microsoft I'd assume: Running the console division until it becomes less profitable than going full PC gaming. I'd assume Sony has a bit more time than Microsoft does. But eventually even they'll end up taking the same route as everyone else seems to in the long run.
