N64 So... Somebody made GTA: San Andreas on N64

gross.. them stripper titties must be super blocky.. how can you drive anywhere with the n64 fog?.. oh well.. im glad everybody busts their ass like this... thanks guys!.. it makes me feel better...
The crazy thing is that they plan to expand it well beyond where it is right now — ugly as a sin, yeah, but an act of sorcery nonetheless ::bigboss

no the answer "both" is when someone asks you "Riaz or Akeno"...

Probably not. But with the experience gained from this, they could make some crazy mods and hacks for the 64
Indeed.

And with someone already having made A Hat In Time technical demo on the same console, we are heading towards a modding reinnasance.

The same dev just put out another video. This time it's Dark Souls on the n64.

Like I said: complete wizard.
It would be interesting to see him flesh out one of these projects. They're cool and all but A lot of what he's actually doing isn't really pushing the n64 all that much and the video titles are a tad bit click baity even if what he's doing is actually pretty cool. He's not really porting these games to n64 he's mostly just importing assets and making up some mock gameplay stuff over it. The most interesting part of the GTA one was the way he imported the models, textures and everything else.

That said. It is great seeing these kinds of projects on the N64. And something like the these model import projects combined with something like this n64 open world engine made by the Portal64 dude
Could actually lead to a real GTA type game on the n64.

I'm blown away by that because I didn't know the N64 had such texture quality limitations — 32x32 total textures must have been a nightmare to deal with, all on a CPU clocking at under 100 MHz.

I basically agree with everything you said.

As far as I know there's a lot of N64 games where they would leave objects untextured and use shading instead to try and avoid the texture and hardware limitations.

CJ looked like a PS1-era model even in the base game though.
