So I just saw the 343 Halo lore retcon

I love Halo, probably one of my favorite games of all time. I even defended 343 back in the days of Halo 4 launch. I played Halo 4, 5 and even got a new GPU for the infinite awesomeness that was Halo Infinite (Except it sucked because of 343)

The story of Halo and its lore is a joint effort between MS and Bungie, the latter spare no tears when making their own retcons (I remember that on the "readme" of Halo CE it was explained that Master Chief WAS the last spartan, not a single one remained).

The thing is, yesterday my brother showed me a video of "Quick summary of Halo lore" and it had the modern Halo lore. And OH GOD, how they massacre my boy. 343 really didnt respect anything:

Making the Humans and ancient race that pissed off the Forerunners. And the precursors... they couldnt get a more generic name/theme for their new race

Im still surprised, I guess I didnt realize beacuse most of 343 story are forgettable. And you cant blame me, even they forgot to the point they tried to start 3 trilogies with 3 titles.

And thats it, now I get why so people are offended by 343/Halo studios (they are the same) writting. For me, now and probably forever Halo is just: Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Legends and Halo: Reach.

Halo 4 has some good story stuff in it with the central idea of Cortana going rampant and Chief trying to save her, until they drop that whole Forerunner/human retcon then yeah it kinda went down the drain a little bit. Even the addition of the Spartan 4s I'm not really cool with, it's really lame to just say "here's some Master Chief's with cooler armour and who are almost as strong with none of the cool lore or downsides". Kinda robs Chief a little bit, you know? And when your main character is one of the coolest and most popular video game protagonists of all time, I'm not sure why you'd want to do that.

Also, of you think 343 lore is bad, don't look at the Paramount show...

I'd say it's worth it, but that's just my biased opinion. I did play a lot of Halo multiplayer as every teenager in the mid-late 2000s did, but I spent the most time with the story and campaign honestly.

I always liked fighting with Spartan 4s but good God the forerunner enemies suck so much even the boss is a pushover regulated to a QTE. That and all the redesigns having permanently turned the warthog into a stunted misbegotten clusterfuck of a vehicle that I can't even begin to make people understand how much I hate. Cool infection multiplayer mode though.

Halo 4 lore, was fine. Halo 5 and Infinite were an absolute shit show. And I ready a lot and I do mean A LOT of the halo books.

I despise few developers as much as I despise 343. They took an iconic franchise with an iconic character that was the face of not just Halo but the entire Xbox brand and completely destroyed it. While Halo 4 showed some promise in terms of graphics and storytelling for a newly formed developer, Halo 5 had the worst campaign in franchise history, the Master Chief Collection was a buggy mess for years, and Halo Infinite failed to deliver on the promise that was shown with its reveal trailer.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Gears 4 and 5, however they're still pretty good games and The Coalition is a very talented developer. 343's the opposite. It's still wild to me that Xbox let Bungie go, they lost Epic, and they closed Lionhead. 3 of their biggest franchises losing their creators isn't a good thing.

It is really sad to see this, because most of all MS devs just lost their way with the corpo culture. But Halo was specially hitted hard. It was so laughable when Halo youtubers started to pivoting from "343 fucked up their last opportunity with infinite" to "Acktually, Bonnie Ross saved Halo!" because all their content depended on Halo.

No, Bonnie never saved or cared about Halo, she just realize she could secure a bonus and a good position with just the sales of the fans. She never even liked Halo thats why they always changes everything to follow whatever was trending hoping it could sell more. They even changed the iconic art style of the game.

At least The Coalition respected GoW
