Switch So, I have the Switch 2 now. (Discussion/Rant)

What would interest me, how are things going with the games you buy in stores. Do you have to download them or are they on the cartridge saved and you can start playing right away??? Because this seems to be such a confusing topic.

It's funny, but Sony and Microsoft are the only gaming companies that have officially lost my business. Sony for repeated hardware failures, Microsoft for hardware and software failures. But I have been nothing short of thrilled with how reliable and user-friendly the Switch has been. We're still using our launch-era model we picked up back in 2017, which works just as well as the day we brought it home 😇

Do I plan on getting a Switch 2, though? Absolutely not. Not because of Nintendo, but because my own interest in modern gaming has fallen right off a cliff >_>

The lawsuit stuff, I really couldn't give a rip. Just Nintendo being Nintendo, in my eyes. They did this kind of thing back in the 90s, too - and, heck, maybe even the 80s?? I know they weren't fans of stores offering their games as rentals, and may have tried to sue to block that from happening, if memory serves.

They also had that stupid "five games per publisher" rule in the NES days that resulted in companies like Konami (re-branding their games as "Ultra") and Atari (rebranding as "Tengen") looking for workarounds, among others. Then there was the whole claim they tried to have on Tetris, which effectively ended the Tengen brand.

Was I aware of any of this, back in the day? Nope! And would it have kept me from playing? Nope! They made a product I enjoyed using. And they still do. That's it.

Anyone venting about how "evil" Nintendo is - while also using a Microsoft, Google, Amazon, or Apple device to post those claims online - is seriously picking-and-choosing which tech companies they've decided to have a beef with 😅

I don't know about "No Man Sky" update/upgrade for Switch 2 in particular, but I owned that game physical on Switch 1 for a little while and all of the updates were free and pretty huge in content, and surely it was cool, in other games they would have been paid dlc!
I don't have the S2 and for now I'm ok with the consoles I have, just writing this to say I'm really sorry people and you are being bullied for which consoles they own :(
Luckily when I was in high school it never happened to me, I must say when I told my classmates I was playing FF8 on pc, one of them kindly lent me the official guide!!
I'm happy you're enjoying the games you're playing on your new console!

I feel like I'll regret this but what do y'all think?
I don't care about the feelings of a giant corporation and I don't care about the feelings of people dumb enough to give them their money. I don't really care that the switch 2 is overpriced garbage and I don't particularly care if people buy it or not. I haven't bought a Nintendo product since the GameCube era and don't intend to start now.

My one and only piece of advice to not look for approval from internet strangers, wading into the swamp and being surprised you got muddy is not the way to go.

If it says game keycard you have to download it. The "physical game" is just the "key" to play. If it doesn't say game keycard on the bottom thats full game on cartridge.

That's good to know because it's really confusing. Thank you 👍

I prefer to wait until more games are released, since it's still compatible with Switch 1 games. I recently bought Pokémon Legends Z-A and I liked it.

My review of the Switch 2 is that it's fine. It's a straight upgrade to the Switch, like it says on the tin. The OG Switch is a nearly ten-year old tablet at this point, of course it can't run anything. I've been enjoying Street Fighter 6 and Pokémon Scarlet (which runs way better, it's like a different game).

Personally I think it's a fine investment compared to something like a PS5, which is bulkier and more expensive, and at the end of the day with the Switch 2 you can always fall back on a steady stream of Nintendo exclusives. Sure, you won't get to play the next-gen games (or maybe you will in heavily-compromised form), but that's a trade-off I'm willing to make.

I've been enjoying the Switch 2 but yeah, same about game key cards. I don't resell games anymore so if I have to download the game anyway why have to bother with switching out carts to play it in that case I'll just get it digital when it's on discount.

Yep. If you see this or similar at the bottom of the game cover, it's a "Key Card" that holds only the data to tell Nintendo to let you download the entire game into system memory or the "fast SD card" the device requires:

If you don't see that ugly bit of anti-consumer BS, then the game is on the cart in full and can be played right away...barring any day-1 patches and bug fixes. This will most commonly apply to 1st party games:
