Switch So, I have the Switch 2 now. (Discussion/Rant)

My dad for an early (really early if you ask me) Christmas gift got me the Switch 2 I own currently. I'm happy with it as he got it for me out of love and the fact that I've been dealing with a lot because of him, y'know, parental care n crap. That ain't easy. Not that I would really complain about any of it as I don't mind doin' so. Anyway, it was the Legends Z-A bundle and so I'm playin' the fOrBIdDeNNN game because... why the hell wouldn't I at this point, right? And... I actually kinda like it. I'm havin' fun, I think there's interesting ideas. The Switch 2 itself is... legitimately just a Switch Pro, though hahah. My dad got me the upgrade pack for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter since it was just a dollar as well. That game significantly looks better if you ask me though don't ask for technical details. I don't see that far as my eyes are apparently bad. Overall really like the Switch 2. Really like Legends Z-A.

I didn't make this post to complain about the Switch 2 or the new Pokemon game. I wanted to get it off my chest that like... I think some people are taking the negativity around Nintendo now to a whole new level. Don't get me wrong... I have my issues with Nintendo now a days too. 80 dollar games? Pre-release DLC announcements? Price gouged crap that would probably be sold for half the price if priced fairly. The whole Palworld situation. The list could go on. It has legitimately depressed me the past few days how aggressive and negative people have been. I was even insulted and berated for being gifted the Switch 2 and new Pokemon game.

I've seen a little boy be bullied because he was happy getting a Switch 2 with Mario Kart World all with his soda n pringles like dude. He's a kid, he just probably got that from his parents for Summer vacay because AW MOM AND DAAAAAD, ALL MY FRIENDS AT SCHOOL HAVE A SWITCH 2 NOW. PLEEEEAAAASEEEE!!! And the like.

I still will never buy a game keycard. I will probably be very picky with anything Switch 2 wise I get (which feeds into the game keycard crud). I'll be buying Switch 1 versions if Switch 2 version is game keycard or whatnot. I know people are frustrated, as they should be, but I don't think it's going in the right direction. If someone spends their money how they want... let them. That's their right. If you don't wanna spend your money then don't.

Sorry if it seems I'm being a "blind Nintendo fanboy" or something like that, I'm really not. I just think from what I've seen people are goin' a bit too insane over all this stuff and I think it needs to be taken in a healthier direction. People saying someone like me is a bootlicker and "hows that $100 boot taste, bootlicker?" (in reference to Z-A) is really toxic.

I feel like I'll regret this but what do y'all think? I might be bein' a bit sensitive. I just wanted to get this off my chest and whatnot because I am enjoying Z-A and my Switch 2. I do agree with some complaints about Z-A but overall it's tryin' somethin' new and I like it for that.

Whichever camp you're in, or if you are neutral that's cool. Just y'all keep things respectful that's all I ask.

Edit: Wanted to state too that I'm glad I have a Switch 2 for the new Fire Emblem game as I'm a huge fan of that series and the new Hyrule Warriors as well. Can't wait for 'em! Oh, and that I love how No Man's Sky for Switch 2 is just a free upgrade pack. I got my physical copy for Switch 1 for like $25 so that's a freakin' steal and IMO how all this SHOULD be. In regards to the graphics n upgrade pack things.

I think if you enjoy it, enjoy it. You're also voting with your dollar if you don't buy things, even if the system was a gift, and what other people think doesn't matter. If it somehow makes them feel better being shitty people about it, that's on them in the long run.

It's kinda not new, yeah. I think Nintendo has gone overboard this time but like I don't think individuals deserve the abuse you give a company just because they enjoy said company. You can talk to them, try to change their mind but in a civil manner.

Me either. I bought one at launch because, well, if you want Zelda and Metroid, that's the only way you'll be playing it until an emulator comes out. Still though, I'm not buying game keycards, since as a collector I want the actual physical game on the cart. Yeah, PS5 games don't even have the entire game on the disc anymore, but at least you don't need to connect to the net to play them.

The hate for Nintendo is somewhat deserved, but I don't hate people for buying a Switch 2. Like I said, if you like Nintendo first party games like Mario platformers, Zelda, Metroid, Mario Party, etc, then you have no other choice currently. Let people enjoy things.

But honestly though, Nintendo needs to chill a bit.

I just remembered some bit of insanity I heard with Switch 2... isn't Nintendo bein' all like "You want Switch 2 dev kit? Nah screw you!"????? Am I crazy or is that a thing?

As others have said, I'm not gonna hate on you for liking what you like, nor am I gonna bully some child for enjoying a game console. If I was gifted a Switch 2, I'd utilize it, even if I don't particularly want one. Honestly, I'd probably just let it sit until such time as we get a good custom firmware on it so I can load it up with emulators and retire my OG Switch as my mobile emulation device.

That said, Nintendo has more than earned the hate they're getting. When people misdirect that hate at gamers, yeah, that's fucking stupid. As I said, if I was *given* a Switch 2, I wouldn't turn it down. If someone *gifted me* a copy of Legends Z-A, I'd play it, and might even have fun with it. Hell, I'm probably gonna pirate that shit and play it anyway.

What I *won't* do is spend my own money on it or the Switch 2, because Nintendo is out of their fucking mind if they think I'm going to pay over $100 for the game itself and a whole-ass day-one DLC expansion. They're out of their damn mind if they think I'm ever going to pay $80 for a game period. And they're out of their mind if they think I'm going to pay hundreds of dollars for a console that is, ultimately, just a New Switch XL whose library consists of games that I have long-since played to completion on the OG Switch, a Mario Kart that was pretty universally panned and then got *worse*, and DK Bananza, which *also* just got paid DLC less than a year after release.

All of that combined with their abysmal business practices over the last few years and the cherry on top of the Palworld suit and Nintendo deserves every ounce of hate they're getting. The patents that they are trying to claim in court could hamstring gaming as a whole, making devs afraid to put certain mechanics or concepts in their games for fear that Nintendo is going to come after them in court and cost them millions. They're leading the charge for the new standard of an $80 price point. They're shitting all over the gaming industry and they're doing so when they don't even have the benefit of a slew of high-quality titles from beloved franchises to bolster public opinion.

I don't fault anyone for owning/playing their games and having fun with them, but let's not pretend that hating Nintendo right now isn't 100% justified. There will always be outliers who take it too far and turn things into a crusade. It's why there isn't a single good fandom on Earth, because the loud, obnoxious ones will always treat you like any criticism of their beloved franchise is a personal attack on them, give the whole fandom a bad name, and cause all the reasonable ones to just stay quiet to avoid association with it. The Nintendo criticism and hate is absolutely justified, and those choosing to boycott them entirely are doing the right thing by saying "No, we don't accept your $80 price point, or your new hardware that has nothing to play on it but games I already own." If you don't send a message that it's not acceptable, they keep doing it and things only get worse. Stating that the whole idea is bad just because a few unhinged and very loud people are taking it too far is just throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Ultimately, you enjoy your free console and game, OP. There's nothing wrong with that. There's a LOT wrong with Nintendo, their practices, their prices, and their impact on the industry/hobby as a whole. There is room for both in this instance.

Salty much? Also MKW wasn’t “universally panned” tfym? A lot of people like that game. Maybe you should learn to not give a fuck. It’s not exclusively Nintendo who’s charging $80 for games, every company is doing it now. They weren’t the first ones to do it. Also you’re pretty much beating a dead horse. I’m sometimes convinced people just like to hate on Nintendo just because they think they’re “cool” when they harshly criticize nintendo. The Nintendo haters are no better than the Nintendo defenders. This extreme hatred towards them is not very justified, they didn’t poorly treat their employees and they didn’t sexually harass any of them, and they don’t use A.I and they’re cracking down on stopping A.I content. That’s when the hate is justified. If anything, Sega, Microsoft, EA, Activision, Ubisoft and Epic Games are infinitely fucking worse than Nintendo. Price Points and filing patents aren’t worth getting extremely angry over. The shit Nintendo is doing is tame compared to what the other companies are doing. People just love to act like fucking children.

Just enjoy it dude. Personally i think switch 2 isnt even bad, quite powerful for a System in that price range when compared to other Handhelds currently on the Market. The Game prices on the other hand...oof.

Totally agree with the Switch 2 just being a Switch Pro. The original Switch is in my top 3 favorite consoles. I got a lot out of it and still love it. Figured I should get a Switch 2 when the opportunity arose, so I did. I will say, when I first booted it up, I was like, "Hmm... It's just a Switch again..."

Thankfully, because of supply limitations, I was forced to get the Mario Kart World bundle. I think that game is really weak, but it helped the doubts I was feeling to be able to play an actual "next-gen" game on my "next-gen" console. Been playing the console like mad for months, though pretty much only games I already had in my Switch 1 library.

Third-party titles are mostly still $60 or lower, so if you avoid Nintendo's first-party stuff, then you don't have to deal with their ridiculous prices. I bought a good half of all of the first-party stuff they released on the first Switch, but I think that number is going to drop dramatically because of how hostile they're being towards their customer base; and those damn prices.

My overall take is people should wait until it gets more actual Switch 2 games. There's very little to play if you're only looking for Switch 2 games--even less if you're looking for exclusives. I don't regret the purchase; more Switch is a good thing in my book. But, pragmatically speaking, there's not nearly enough to justify the headaches that Nintendo is causing right now.
