so i got a cd-i...

I tend to forget that, but it makes sense.
Old age and all. ;)
The fear of losing the tape was so permanent for us that we ended up buying most of ours after they became bargain bin material. In fact, up to 75% of my current collection was rescued from the trash or given to me for free.
That's why my brother and I, years ago, being the kind of poor kids we were.
Would buy them cheaply. Sadly, all of the VHS tapes me and my brother had acquired (he bought them like crazy at yard sales, thrift shops, etc.) were lost in a fire years ago.

I think we had upwards of 800 movies. And I don't think we ever paid more than 50 cents to a couple of dollars for any of them. A lot of them were 2 or 3 for a dollar
Oh, how times have changed.
Yeah, but honestly, for the better. Media-wise, I actually don't mind the lack of "Be Kind, Rewind" >:p

(Serious):
I only ever had access to a CD-I a few times, and that was some time ago.
A colleague of mine had one, I do believe they bought it new, around fall or perhaps Christmas of that year.

They had, I believe, Hotel Mario and Burn Cycle for it.
It, well, at the time, was fairly impressive. I myself never saw much use in it, it really only seemed to be an overpriced, glorified CD player with some basic and minor video and gaming capabilities.
