Snow White has now overtaken Dragon Ball Evolution as the worst movie ever made on IMDB

I'm vaguely aware that there is a shitstorm going on around this movie, that's generally the kind of thing that's going to get you a low imdb rating way faster than actually making an aggressively bad film ever would.

I am so damn glad that seemingly nobody in my country of residence gives even the slightest bit of a fuck about the Disney remakes (as well as the recent Marvel films).
I'm aware that there's tons of 'em and they have in fact been released around here, but there has practically been zero advertising or groundswell for any of them around here.

If ever a thing deserved a disinterested shrug, it's the soulless entertainment products masquerading as films Disney has been churning out for the better part of a decade now.

it's not so much that it's bad; but everything that came before hand. the lead actress is obnoxious and was very insulting to the original movie that Walt Disney himself made. she said that she hated half of the country of america, the little goblin named peter dinklage[no, i don't care if i spelt that right] didn't help by basically get all dwarf actors/actress barred from ever getting a movie role again; everyone is getting bored of live action remakes. that's primarily what we have gotten over the past decade. the movie looks half assed, and it apparently has 2 different plots stitched together. basically robin hood and snow white rolled up into one.
hollywood hates animation. it will never happen for the foreseeable future.

If movies flopped because actors were obnoxious, Tom Cruise wouldn't have a career.

Yeah, Dinklage was an advocate for little people getting more dignified roles instead of being comedy fodder. Its too bad places like Disney took his words too seriously.

I'm pretty sure we're now well and truly into another dark Disney age. The MCU is slowly puttering out (well, I guess it kind of isn't, but it's not where it used to be), all the new animated films are poorly-received, everyone hates Star Wars, and now this.

If I were their CFO, I'd seriously pull back on all the movies and just focus on the parks for, like, a decade. Give people some time to relax, y'know?

you can be obnoxious, but you can't be hateful towards potential customers and fans. i haven't heard much about tom cruise hating on his fans and customers.
dinklage sure as shit does not come off like that. he acts like he is the only one allowed to be a dwarf actor.

can't wait for the chicken little ''remake''
that would probably do better, since it would just be an hour and a half of a chicken going about its day.

People liked these up live-action remakes until Mulan, but the peak has clearly been crossed and we're now tumbling straight into the slop trough. I wonder which one is generally considered the best? Beauty and the Beast? Does anyone here actually like any of them?

I actually wouldn't mind watching the live-action Lion King as a sheer matter of curiosity, since it's basically just an animated nature documentary, and I find that interesting. I PROBABLY WON'T, THOUGH
I liked the Jungle Book Live Action more than the original, but honestly is more because the original isn't that great. And Dumbo is amazing in a way, it deviates heavily from the original and it kinda says "fuck you" to Disney itself, using Disney money to do that does bring a smile to my face. Although in hindsight that might explain why Aladdin right after was so boring and by the numbers.

Oh, yeah that is a no no. Tom Cruise has an obnoxious personality and is a cultist, but he is great with the fans and the media.

I guess? I wouldn't say its so much that. He does speak about how he refused stereotypical roles for dwarves in hollywood and went the independent route to make a name for himself as a serious dramatic actor because those types of roles weren't available for him. But yeah actors on twitter say some stupid shit sometimes.

Oh I don't feel strongly enough to fight about this, but the original had George Sanders as the voice of Shere Khan! He sounds *amazing*, more men should sound like him. One of my favorite movies is All About Eve (1950), where he basically plays Satan moonlighting as a theater critic. Incredible stuff.

Wait, so by this you mean you prefer the 2016 adaptation of the Jungle Book to the 1967 animated one, right? Because there's a 90s live-action one that muddles stuff up.
it seems in general that the early live action movies based off of the animated disney movies are rather well liked, and some others are like that too. 101 Dalmatians, jim carry in the grinch movie, and others. those were made to be their own thing though. the latest batch varies though. dumbo differs from the original, lion king is a shot for shot remake. it mainly depends on who's directing and who's writing the script for the most part.

Here's an idea: actually do it right.

They did everyone involved on that one dirty by completely canning what they had planned because, in the sort of logic expected from Twitter's AI, the studio that gave us every damn princess under the sun thought that a female protagonist would sink their film.

It's the kind of thing that makes me wanna bash my head against the wall.

The Jungle Book live action movie did have Bill Murray as Baloo, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, and Christopher Walken as King Louie so it wasn't exactly a downgrade. I think that is the most succesful recent live action adaptation of a classic Disney animation. The thing that sold me on that movie is that they nailed the songs. They were actually fun and not soulless.

Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli was...no, *Is* the sexiest a man has ever been in a Disney movie. That movie and like, George of the Jungle were a big part of millennial girls development.

@Strategist That's fair, it really wasn't bad! I saw it in 3D when it came out, and the opening in particular looked *incredible*.

Wow..... to be able to overcome DB Evolution and be even worse?!? That is something that only effort and true talent(at being terrible) can accomplish. GOOD JOB Disney, pat yourself on the back, you've truely earned this one.

I get this movie and the 90s Jungle Book so confused in my mind that I quite literally cannot tell which is which even when looking at screenshots. The 90s had too many cartoony jungle movies.
I like to think of that as part of the weird fascination with early pulp comics that were getting made in the 90's; stuff like Dick Tracy and The Phantom went hand in hand with old "jungle action" stories inspired by Tarzan and the like. I think it was old executives seeing the success of Batman and trying to capitalize with what *they* grew up with, like the old Republic serials of the 30's and 40's.

Don't forget about the Rocketeer! Maybe Darkman could also be in the same genre.

Oh shit, I *always* forget about the Rocketeer! It should be so much better, but I still kinda love it.

It also has this sense memory thing for me. (This is going to sound weird). There's a particular - almost metallic? - scent that I associate with that movie. It was really potent in the house I first saw the movie in, and I've never smelled it since. Even so, I can still recall it *perfectly* when I think about The Rocketeer...I don't even have strong feelings for the film, it really makes no sense to me!
