Probably the first system i ever tried in 2019. Has anyone got a good stable snes emulator to use in 2025 the one i use is on my old laptop. Solid
enough but fancy a change.

Thanks

I have hard drives with retroarch and the snes already set up just want a standalone for my laptop so i can muck about with the rom hacks you can get here

BSnes has amazing capabilities, and can emulate MSU-1, but if you want something with minimal setup the old standard is Snes9x, which is still one of the best SNES emulators to this day with minimal setup required other than putting in your controller inputs.

Can echo this, I have always had great success with Snes9x, and iirc bsnes can be used to play wide screen hacks of some SNES games, like Super Mario World. Of course there is the real OG, znes. Which will always have a special place in my heart as it was the first emulator I ever used. Blew my mind.

I have heard things regarding ZSnes as being outdated and unreliable. That said, I myself have never had a single issue with it and it remains one of my favorite emulators today. Maybe a bit for the nostalgia factor, but if it doesn't play the ROM you want you still have other options like Snes9x or BSnes.

There are a small number of games that dont work well with Zsnes, record of lodoss war freezes right in the beginning of the game. I played it so i can confirm this. Had to go with Snex9x. I believe a dev said the problem is timing-related issues.

The snow! zsnes was how I played Final Fantasy VI for the first time. Same with Chrono Trigger on a garbage Toshiba laptop. Ran through so many games that summer.

The snow was my favorite part of ZSnes too.

I'm even old enough to remember NESticle and the bleeding hand cursor.

ohh, how nostalgic, ZSNES. That's my favourite SNES emulator, specially because I could do NetPlay natively with it to play Seiken Densetsu 2 :). When having desyncs it was hilarious lol.

Give ARES a try.

It is the sucessor to HIGAN (the sucessor of BSNES). It's great, extremely accurate.
But if you PC is too old, SNES9x as others already said.
