Wii U Smash bros wii u

I forgot to add but I always preferred Master Fortress over Galeem and Dharkon solely because of how you could have never seen it until the game's release under some conditions.

And the overall creepiness of its amorphous forms as well as the Fortress on Wii U.

I played it religiously until Ultimate was revealed and it wasn’t until then that I kind of started seeing where the people calling it Brawl 2.0 were coming from. Game played in actual slo-mo, but I did have very fun with it while it lasted, I played it online WAY more than Ultimate, and in some instances I think it looks better graphically than Ultimate.

Nowadays I’d probably place it above Brawl but below the rest. Ultimate was better in almost every conceivable way to me, aside from a few graphical/aesthetic areas and PvE content (I want to kill World of Light)

My buddy Eric once suggested a smashing game and I told him to piss off cuz I knew he was go on another tired Wii U rant. Anyways Sm4sh is cool, didn’t invest into it as heavily as I did with 64 but I liked it.

I played it when I was a kid but I was never able to have any friends over and didn't have particularly good internet on account of the fact that I lived in a very rural area during its time, so I only really ever played against CPUs. There's a part of me that is fully convinced that Sm4sh has some kind of secret sauce that I'm just not in on because everyone I know who played that game religiously during its time is really really good whenever we boot it up for nostalgia's sake.

Smash 64 is fine for what it was but like Street Fighter 1, KoF '94 and Guilty Gear the Missing Link, they're too archaic for today and you'd better play their respective sequels.

I still dislike how stuff like horde Smash, Race to the Finish and Smash Crystal aren't available outside of playing Smash Run...

I think Sakurai's best 3DS game is still Kid Icarus Uprising (which I suspect was the basis of Smash 4's game engine on the console).

I don’t think I’d disagree with that. I mainly go back to it out of nostalgia. I never properly wrapped my head around the competitive side of smash. I’m well aware that once the novelty wears off, all you’re left with are game mechanics but I think smash games and live and die by their charm, and 64 is plenty charming in my book. (The others have their quirks too, of course)

I also agree that 64 had a special ambience and feeling compared to the subsequent games.

But the lack of side specials, air dodging among other things (like mushrooms changing size and event matches) makes it very limited outside of 1P Mode and multiplayer (which only allowed one stage in competition).

Speaking of the competitive aspects I think this is why Smash Bros as a franchise has a big issue: Brawl was so much ignored by the competitive crowd of Melee that Sakurai tried to please both casuals and hardcore fans yet ended up pleasing neither...

I think most competitive players would stay on Melee/PM/P+ or even other platform fighters.

True true, that’s how I felt. I don’t necessarily think a complete re-do of brawl would’ve pleased casuals but I’d be fine with it.

Pretty much. I never saw any real interest in those outside of hardcore players. Not to discredit them of course, I have the utmost of respect, but I can’t bring myself to get invested in any of it unless I was already in an FG community dedicated to it (although I’d be in one already by now if I was. Interest breeds circumstance, not just vice versa)

I'm not asking for a new Subspace Emissary but at least a single player adventure mode (playable in coop) like Melee's could've been nice...

I feel like Melee's AM was rushed because you got two big levels then smaller ones (Metroid's escape sequence and Big Blue race) then barely anything for Ice Climber and Mother...

But I feel like Kirby's Return to Dreamland is basically SSE 2.0 in many aspects. Air Riders will scratch my itch for a new Smash Run I'm pretty sure.

For me Smash Bros has always been a party game first fighting next. Items and timer modes are by default for that exact reason.

Although I also think that pure FTGs being played casually between friends is also valid. Not everything has to be tryhard in gaming (like how Counter Strike and even Quake 3 had some more "fun" modes by fans).
