Hello! ::peacemario

Do you know of any PS2 games that are relatively small in file size?

Most games fill the entire DVD with 4Gb or more but there are a few that are relatively small that were shipped in CD-ROMs so I'd like to compile a list.

Street Figher EX 3 (JPN) - 702mb
Gradius V - 466mb
Extermination - 845mb

This game is roughly around 500mb

Based on my own collection:

Castle Shikigami 2 (463MB), Chulip (679MB), Simple 2000 Series Vol. 107: The Honō no Kakutō Banchō/Hard Knock High (651 MB), Ico (609MB), Mister Mosquito (640MB), Nightshade (808MB), Piposaru 2001 (697MB), Gekibo 2/Polaroid Pete (226MB), Psikyo Shooting Collection (592MB), Raiden III (713MB), Rez (220MB), Rockman Power Battle Fighters (717MB), Sega Ages 2500 Vol. 1 & 17 (66.2MB and 102MB respectively), Street Fighter III 3rd Strike (618MB)

I believe they are some Shump games and arcade ports that are somehow lighter than some PSX games

According to my own folder, my <1GB PS2 games are:
  • Ico - 609mb
  • Gauntlet: Dark Legacy - 679mb
  • Chulip - also 679mb
All the ~60 or so others I have downloaded atm are at least 1,14gb or bigger it seems.

Ahhh, I see someone is filling out their OPL library.

Anything from the Sega Ages 2500 Series, some of which are just 3D remakes of old Genesis games (Like Golden Axe or Gain Ground). I bet your not super interested in the ones that are just ports of Saturn, Arcade, and Genesis games (though, playing on PS2 is not the worst decision in the world), so, I'll just list ones that are full on remakes (semi exclusive, though, a number of them also went to the PSP as well):
  • Golden Axe (149 Mb)
  • Alien Syndrome (218 Mb)
  • Outrun (423 Mb)
  • Afterburner II (209 Mb)
  • Space Harrier (not the Space Harrier collection, those are just ports) (236 Mb)
  • Phantasy Star: Generation 1 (remake of Phantasy Star I) (66.6 Mb, file size of the beast)
  • Phantasy Star: Generation 2 (remake of Phantasy Star II) (102 Mb)
I know we're all emulating stuff around here, but the Sega Ages series also includes a number of bangers from their vault, such as Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon, Fighting Vipers, Dynamite Deka, Galaxy Force II, and Virtual-On. These ones are just straight ports, so I doubt their file size delineates to far from their source.

And since you mentiones Street Fighter Ex, there is also a port of Street Fighter III: Third Strike that was released for the PS2 in Japan, that's basically like the Dreamcast release. However, it became packaged in the Street Fighter Anniversary collection in the west, and that's one of the 4 gb ones, so I'd imagine the solo release is way smaller.

A lot of 2D Fighters like Capcom vs SNK 2 and Marvel vs Capcom 2 tend to be very small.

Same for a lot of Shmups like Castle Shikigami 2 or Gradius 5. Gauntlet Dark Legacy and Oni are also both under 1 GB.
