SkiFree Appreciation Thread

This game rocks. It's the true essence of a video game. You take control of a rad dude skiing down a mountain, doing cool tricks all the way down. You need to avoid all kinds of obstacles on the slope, if you hit them, you slow down and in turn, become less cool in the eyes of the SkiFree NPCs on the chairlift, at least that's what I like to think.

Of course, everyone who played SkiFree long enough was eaten by the Yeti at the end. But if you press F on your keyboard, you can double your speed and outpace him (This isn't a joke! You can actually do this!).

Sound off in this thread if you love SkiFree! It came on my Windows 98 computer for free, and I played it often since it was one of the only games I had. But it was awesome nonetheless.

Bonus fun fact: SkiFree was ported to the Gameboy Color:

XP's space pinball game.
Space Cadet pinball was available as far back as Win95. Kinda. It was part of the Win95Plus package iirc. The saddest thing is that it was always intended to be a part of a commercial release called Full-Tilt Pinball but Microsoft shafted the devs and made sure Windows users had no idea that was the case.

Full-Tilt Pinball did come out and even had a sequel but most people have no idea that happened. Microsoft won I suppose but I have no idea what they got out of screwing a small studio over like this.

Oh gosh, the number of hours I spent on Skifree as a kid. That and Chip's Challenge were some of the only games I was allowed to play on the family computer until I reached 2nd or 3rd grade. Still play them now and then, all these years later. 😅

Had nooo idea about pressing F to go faster! My mom would probably lose her mind if I told her—she hated that yeti with a passion.

I made it a priority to set the little trees on fire
More yetis will appear if you keep going
