Single player games with optional online multiplayer side modes

I was going around with my 3DS playing Kid Icarus Uprising's multiplayer with the bots to kill some time and then I got curiosity, what other games also have this kind of thing? If possible send some gameplay, I want to know more of these.

I don't mean games with focus on online play that happen to have some offline things, I mean fully finished single player titles that just so happen to have a PvP or PvE multiplayer mode within the same game, it can be one that uses the mechanics found in the main adventure or something fully standalone with it's own gamemodes, maps or stuff, if it's very feature rich the better. (please nothing with microtransactions and nonsense)

Also, mentions of local split screen / LAN multiplayer are also welcome if they are unique.

Ms. Splosion-Man has an entirely separate campaign for multiplayer. It's not necessary to finish the single-player mode but it does act as bonus content when you can convince some friends to play with you.

A detail I really like about the multiplayer is that the stage music assigns a layer to each player. With less than four players, you only hear the stage music in a reduced format but with four players, you hear the tracks as they were originally composed.
