While I don't need all childrens programming to be dark and serious, I have always believed that children deserve good quality shows that give them something of value; a good story, good morals, stuff to think about etc. But sometimes as a kid you just watched stuff because it was on and the TV acted like a magnet to your eyeballs. So what are some shows you take with you from back then and will defend for all eternity, and some you regret having ever let into your concious?

Before I come with my own examples, I'll stress that we should keep it civilized and constructive. We are not here to bash each others childhood, if some hate something someone else hold dear, or vice versa. We all have different tastes, morals, and values, so if I dislike something you don't, it ain't a personal attack.

Also, to add a bit of fun, try to summarize your shows in ONE sentence, boiling it down to the bare basics.

Some shows I loved:
Jumanji - Kids going on dangerous adventures in a magic malicious jungle.
Redwall - Woodland critters on epic adventures in medieval time
Fantastic Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor - Two adventurous youths and their cat on seafaring voyages
Jackie Chan - Exciting martial arts adventures with Jackie-boy who fights demons
Noah's Island - The daily misadventures of the animals on a stray island hoping to find paradise
Rugrats - The world seen through the imaginary eyes of toddlers and the protag who is way mature for his age
Ed, Edd n Eddy - Misadventures of a money-scheming trio who always comically get their just deserts
Sonic X - Speedy blue hedgehog on the hunt for magic gemstones while fighting bad guys

Some shows I hated:
Franklin - Everyday life of an insufferable selfish young turtle boy with no social morals
Angelina Ballerina - Mouse girl dancing ballet who is always mean to her younger brother
Amanda Anaconda - Schoollife of girl who uses her imagination to grill people she dislikes
Kim Possible - Insufferable teenage girl who saves the world but can't stand when others surpass her
Foster's Home - Daily life of a ragtag bunch of ugly ass misfits that look like rejects from other cartoons
Fanboy & Chumchum - The title alone sounds like they had no ideas
Flapjack - Ugly ass artstyle

What're some of yours?

Noah's Island - The daily misadventures of the animals on a stray island hoping to find paradise
Ojski pojski! This one was THE SHIT. It was essentially Lost with talking animals. I remember being really fascinated by how much character drama the show had.
Kickass theme song too:

As for myself (and not counting Moomin)? Out of the ones I loved as a kid my favorite is probably Recess. I loved how it took kids seriously, and how it sort of portrayed life on the schoolyard in a sort of heightened reality setting. Also really liked the dingy and timeless artstyle it had going for it. (Sorry I missed the one sentence rule as I was typing this out!)

A few others I really liked growing up:
EEnE - It's like the inverse of Recess which is probably why I love it so much, too, because it's just whacky kid hijinx turned up to 11.
Kim Possible - I liked the superhero fusion of Teenage Girl + James Bond, and it had a really great cast of supporting characters and villains.
Lilo & Stitch - Guessing what new experiment would appear every week was lots of fun, and it looked great and had really funny writing with lots of running jokes and good moments.
Digimon - I don't have a lot of specific memories of it but I remember that me, my brother and my mom would get up and watch it early all the time, and I love Digimon so it must've made its mark somehow.
Bear in the Big Blue House - When I was really small, I remember loving how he sort of interacted with the viewer so much.

A few I couldn't stand:
Teacher's Pet - Ugly disgusting artstyle with really shitty grossout humor and a scary vibe.
Cramp Twins - Also insanely ugly, and really fucking loud and obnoxious.
Fairly OddParents - Ugly, stupid, loud. The American one was probably wittier but definitely got lost in translation.
Rugrats - Gross toddlers made grosser by the Klasky Csupo style (I like Klasky Csupo as an adult though), which really scared me as a kid.
Cow & Chicken - Too gross for me, but I like the animation style as an adult.
Seaside Hotel - Some boring cartoon that always aired on Swedish summer holiday TV with a really ugly artstyle.
SpongeBob - Heresy, I know, but I found it to be ugly and really weird.

In general I'm not a huge Nickelodeon fan. As a kid I always found them to be either too loud, too crass, or too weird.

He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe - ABSOLUTE KEEP!
Aqua teen Hunger Force - ABSOLUTE KEEP!
Sesame Street - Erase
Spongebob Squarepants or pretty any 2010's Nick Or CN tv show - Erase

svamp bob squarepants the characters design are ugly the jokes are bad as hell
for me this series kill your brain you lose brain cells for everytime you watch it

south park i have only seen 1 episode and it was so bad
fairly oddparent

I fucked with Grojband, don't really have one I’d erase from memory since I don't care that much about a bad show.

i think just last year i properly revisited Cybersix after it used to rerun all the time when i was younger. bit of an odd production that adapts an Argentinian comic, animated by a Japanese studio but otherwise produced and distributed by a canadian company.
genuinely still a gorgeous show from the early digital era with a charming enough cast and some good action. i know a lot of the adult themes of the comic were toned down or removed but a few times the script felt almost too simplified. such as people stating the obvious like shows more deliberately aimed at an even younger crowd. still a solid if short watch otherwise even now.

Shows I liked: The adventures of Pete and Pete,
Sonic X, Cardcaptor Sakura, Pokemon, Sonic SatAM, The super Mario Brothers super show, Ghost Stories (The English Dub).

Shows I hate: Dino Girl Gauko ( Horrendous, the opening is awful... It's all awful. There's only one good character.)

Like:

Ren & Stimpy
Invader Zim
Bugs Bunny
Family Guy
Beavis & Butthead

Can't stand:

Bob's Burgers
Futurama
Aqua Teen Hunger Force

janggeum's dream was the best thing happened to me when i was 5. its also the show i want to erase from my memory because i want to watch it again blindly.

I fondly remember Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Beavis & Butthead, SpongeBob SquarePants, Scooby Doo, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Samurai Jack, Dexter's Laboratory, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, Johnny Bravo, Ren & Stimpy, Chappelle's Show, SNL, Pinky and the Brain and Looney Tunes from my childhood. I want to forget Family Guy, the American dub of Viewtiful Joe and every season of SpongeBob that released after the movie.

Aqua Teen was so gas 😭🙏

It still is. Again. Plantasm is even better than the first movie, and the most recent season kicked ass, particularly S12E3.
I didn't even know they made new content! Looks neat.

Fanboy & Chumchum… that brings back memories… the theme song still scrapes my brain sometimes. Truly cursed. Thinking about it makes my skin crawl

I truly do not think my life would be any different if ‘sonic underground’ never existed, hell maybe instead I could have watched something actually good. Also have had a better introduction to sonic

Loved: Mlp Fim, fhfif, twd, breaking bad, wander over yonder, star vs, WordGirl, and Wild Kratts (yes, wild kratts. it's a educational cartoon)
Absolute Torture: Fish Hooks

All of the Loony Tunes/Merry Melodies shows were gold.

Hanna-Barbera shows like Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, Captain Caveman, The Smurfs, Top Cat and Hong Kong Phooey

Alot of UK kids game shows like Get Your Own Back, 50/50 and Jungle Run were firm favourites.

Brum, Come Outside, Cats Eyes, SMart and Art Attack were great edutainment.

Goosebumps and Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids were (mostly) effective fun horror story shows too.

Also, shout out to Mona the Vampire and the Rugrats: Search for Reptar game (never really watched the show)

Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Try to erase this from your memory. The show was ahead of its time.

Shows I would absolutely keep:

Pirates of Dark Water
– Pirates, adventure, high seas goofiness, absolutely yes.

M.A.S.K. – G.I. Joe with a half-drunk cast, cars where neat.

Thundercats (the original, possibly the 2001 version) – The original was a great show, loved it. The 2001 version may have been a bit later, I don't remember now; it was alright.

Invader Zim – Deranged and bizarre, I loved it. Also, I swear the Irkens are FILTHY STINKING GOBLINS!!!!!

Skeleton Warriors – He-Man basically, with skeletons and magic. Was a fun show, had that great 80s cornballness.

Dungeons & Dragons – Like Skeleton Warriors, but D&D-based. Another fun show I actually have a legal box set of.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – Do I even need to explain this one?

(Erase)

Teen Titans Go – The creators need a punch in the face.

SpongeBob SquarePants – My ex's little girl watched this CONSTANTLY!!! I would have rather sat through a FILTHY GOBLIN ORGY!!!! than hear this show ever again.

Powerpuff Girls – Like South Park and Dragon Ball, had a drunken illegitimate child.

...goblins...

Thought I was the only Sonic X defender.

I don't know if I mentioned this one, but I hate this show as well. SpongeBob himself is annoying and half the shit in the show is either meanspirited or feels random for the sake of being original. Only character I liked was, surprise, Squidward, because of his "please kill me attitude". I know Squidward is supposed to be the character adults who are tired of life and fun associate with, while chipper-ass Spongy is the one kids associate with... but I was opposite.
