Chief Sitting Bull once said that "Video Games should be free like flowing river"
Do you agree? Do you think video games should be free for all? What do you think should be the underline price for games?

Video games should retail brand new at no more than £40 for the base game ($53). I simply won't pay more than that, unless it's for some swanky special edition.

No! People should be absolutely paid for their hard work and time developing these games. However, I do not accept companies doing it nowadays; Like I said in a different thread, companies used to be unique but nowadays they would just deliver what they think the modern audience wants and as it turns out, nobody wants to play them as much as the originals. The only company to not have SO much of this on their radar is Nintendo. But even then, they release games like Nintendo Switch Sports that make people believe that it's the successor to Wii Sports when in reality its like a reboot with none of the iconic Mii characters except you can place your head over it.

All games should be free and the devs should be paying me for it!

I mean... Some are if you know where to look , but I think that the chief problem is that we are demanded to pay through the nose for stuff that we don't even own and can't keep.

Wanna make everything a rental now? Fine, but price it as such!

This is a stupid question and immediately reads as "Should people be paid for their labor?"

Simple answer: No. Games should not be free.

Complex answer: Wall of text involving an endless list of what is good about game development and what is, ultimately, bad about the human proclivity towards (and the differences between varying degrees of-) selfishness/greediness.

Game dev gets paid = good
Corpo CEO jackass/board of directors fucking everyone else over while giving themselves fat bonuses = bad

And so on, and so on, and so on.
Next question.

Beta-testing was the most deceivingly shitty job I had ever gotten. Like, MY GOD IT SUCKED XD
I very, very briefly did video game QA some years back and despised it too before washing out. I thought I hit the lottery when I got the job.

I don't think all of them will be free, but if the company not exist anymore or it's not able to buy in any platform, yes.

Right? "Please perform every action 1000 different ways to see what breaks".

Considering a huge majority of us emulate, I’d say they should be free. Especially retro games. If you want to buy and play some of the top classic games for NES, used game stores wanna charge crazy prices.

If they want us to buy the games, give decent prices. But for the sake of the preservation of gaming history, free all the way.
And in a way, emulation actually makes me interested in buying the physical retro systems. So it goes full circle too sometimes.

I don’t think they should be free on the sense of price. They should be free in terms of access. Just like other forms of art that have passed to the public domain most of them were paid access at some point but their cultural importance for the humankind make the decision to make them more widely available.

And of course that doesn’t mean that the price should not be considered as point of discussion at any point.

Games should be accessible, that discussion includes availability, preservation and price.

Piracy is a different kind of conversation. Independent of price there will always be piracy: for all forms of arts.
