Here is a Question what do you all think of Remakes are the good for the gaming Industry and the games you love or are they just cash grabs that destroy the Original Spirit so to say of the game.

Personally I think it depends. If the game was bad, then I think remakes are a good opportunity to redeem it. A good example would be if they remade something like sonic 06 or daikatana. But more often then not, they end up being a cash grab, or worse, bastardise the orignal, like Silent hill 2 (2024). Ultimately I think remakes should be focused on making a game better rather then overhaul the expirence.

yeah Currently with the state of the Gaming Industry, i worry more about the quality of the remakes. But i am not against a remake if it is done with hearth and with respect to the Original source material.Wich sadly is rarely the case. But it would be good if they would do so as not many people are going to buy a Ps2 or a Gamecube to enjoy the Classics. And besides of that Retro game collecting has become really expensive nowadays, for example i wanted to buy Luigis Mansion 1 for the Gamecube they wanted for a used copy if i remember right 50 to 60 Euro wich is crazy many years back i would have gotten the same game for 20 Euro but nowadays its a nightmare to buy older Games.

i dont mind remakes/remasters at all. the original still exists and a new generation of people can enjoy the game with qol updates and what not.

Well remake must protect main content. I see some great ones and some bads. So if they going to destroy a masterpiece to small cookies made by a old broken factory which no one eat them,I think it's better to don't make any remake.

yes I agree but only if they also honor the Original and don't artificially remove stuff to put it behind a Paywall and only if they don't rewrite the Story to put is short if it is a faithful recreation of the Original than yes.And maybe with some Graphic updates and Gameplay improvements.

At this point it's just an artificial way to maintain IPs copyright. Originals can be played with better upscaling methods than "remastered" cashgrabs.

It reminds me of how royalty maintained their position by getting married between cousins until they degenerated their lineage. That's todays remastered videogame industry. A bunch of consanguines.

only if it actually adds things to the game like Quality of Life improvements, gui, optimization on newer systems, maybe even fixes old bugs. And it should not break old mods or patches from communities that have been keeping a game alive for decades sometimes. And I also want the old version to be available, so a classic and updated option.

And please don't use AI junk to ''upscale'' the graphics, its always terrible compared to what was the original and ruins the aesthetics.
And no removal of content for ''modern sensibilities'' please, I don't want retroactive censorship.

It really depends on the game in question and people tempering their expectations. Recently on here, a Parasite Eve remake was discussed. I can see why they would do it, but if you look at FFVII RE, it's a similar coat of paint on an entirely different building. Which, I guess that's great for keeping a brand alive or whatever, but it seems impossible to make everyone happy.

For a game, there are 3 things:

1. Audiovisual (sounds and graphics)

2. Controls (how you interact with the game; learning curve is a part of this)

3. Interaction (basically what you interact with inside the game: the plot, sidequests, game ambiance, etc.)

For most of the games, the big issue is #1 as the graphics are dated compared to what we have right now

For some games, there are issues with #2 and/or #3 like PSX Silent Hill and PS2 Monster Hunter (#2) and the old Metal Max games for NES and SNES (#3)

For those whose only issue is #1, what it needs is a Remaster. Only when there is an issue with #2 or #3 should a Remake be made

Problem is, game makers nowadays spend lots of resources making Remakes when it is not an issue at all, spending big money and expecting to make big money in return, all based on a non-issue

That's why nostalgia grabs gets a bad rap

At the end of the days the answer would be depends honestly.

Personally, i think what i wanted is rather than "Remake Old Games" i wanted to experience the Contents of Old Games but in a Modern Rendition, so yes if there's a Remake and i want to play it i'm gonna play it no question ask.

But if the Remakes gonna erase or censored a part of that Contents that should've been remaked, what's the point? at that point i much prefer to bust my old laptop put an actual emulator into it and play the actual game.

Obviously, nuance. A lot of old games would benefit from being redone in partial areas. I don't think FF7's most ardent defenders will argue it doesn't need a retranslation and 3D models that aren't "this was the only way we could get 3D models working" , or that FF9's Trance mechanic needs a rework.

But a lot of times, remakes don't understand what makes the original good and end up fucking that up in remaking it, and work to erase the original's existence in wider society as a side product. In spite of the attempt to make it better and more well known, the overall opinion of the game decreases. Not helping matters is that gen z is horrifically tech illiterate, relying on being overcharged for things that should be $3 at most because they've never had to teach themselves how to do basic things like emulation.

Or, alternatively, they just try to remake it shot for shot and end up making a photocopy of the original. Which ends up worse, because it's a photocopy of the original. Removed from why the original works, and dulled through the inevitable sapping of colour done by those.

True but i am sure they will buy there Games sometimes maybe before those Companies go broke. :) if you Believe in Magic that is.
They can either be really good (mana games) or complete ass (Pokemon BDSP)
Either way, if I can emulate them I probably will. One thing I can't stand in a remake is censorship for the mythical "modern audience"

I mean really if those Companies like wasting money and killing off there IP they should Rather sell them or give them away wich would be miles better than what they do

Yeah, so long as its like this one.

I refuse to call this game a "remaster"
That is a disservice to the masterpiece that it is. Oh RE 2002, you were wayyyy too ahead of your time...

Yes because allot of these old classic has aged badly and some would honestly do fine with a new coat of paint.

The issue is when your making a remake don´t do FF7 don´t remake everything but then again FF7 remake is pure greed hey lets take one game split it in to 3 pars and charge full price so you end up paying around 150 bucks to get a complete story which back in the PS1 days you got 3 disc and a full game for the price of 1 game.

But the biggest issue is when you change to much it´s not the same game anymore it´s re-imagining and not a remake.

As I always say don´t fix what´s not broken. Take Freelancer a game I would love to see a graphical lift on but keep the mechanics and story as it was because that what made the game. Also it sucks that the game is no where to be bought.

It all depends on how it is being remade. I want the game to stay like it was, but put in quality of life improvements like better camera controls, which were terrible in a lot of early 3D games.

I feel like a lot of remakes are desperate cash grabs based on nostalgia, barely improve anything over the original, or are just a buggy mess that misses the point of the original game.

It can be done well, like the Link's Awakening remake on the Switch, or Dragon Quest 3 HD.

As usual, I cant but find it funny to read so many people here on the CDRomance forum, who seems OK with all that modern nonsense, online stores, remasters, AAA studios...

We know why we are here and it's not because we're satisified with today's offer. XD

If I'm genuinely interested in a game, why would I buy some AI upscaled version of it, just because they put copyright on 30 years old game that should have gone public. The same companies who have now fed their AI models with anything they could torrent... They're showing the way really... XD

These cashgrabs appeal to the FOMO and nostalgia of impulse buyers. The vast majority wont even bother finishing these games. Most wont even bother *playing* or *installing* them. It's true for most games in general, but I think it's even more prevalent with remakes and remasters and their target market.
