I heard its a good website to learn about coding but idk if there is any better alternative (if there is). And also, it only properly teaches python and I don't think any good projects use python.

replit is good if you don't know how to set up your own coding environment (I would recommend installing a linux distro and learning to use the terminal to execute and a text editor to write code, idk what those on windows use). But iirc you need to pay for extra computing time: a free account is limited to how much you can execute. If you are just getting started, learning the syntax is not that hard for any language and is mostly universal (variables, assignment, loops, conditions, arithmetic operations, etc.) and replit will definitely get you started with that. And no, I don't think there is a better alternative that is free (is it still?)

What gets more challenging is when you need to develop applications that interact with hardware and I/O which replit is not going to let you experience, as far as I know since it runs in a browser...

I'm not sure what you mean. It sounds like you are just getting started, and python is the best language to learn first. Even if you don't think you need it, learn it. Since it is a scripting language, you won't learn essentials of compiling and building, but that is very minor for someone just starting and wants to learn how to make a computer do stuff. It never hurts to know one scripting language very well.
