So I’ve been eyeing a psvita for the longest time now and now I have the money to buy one and Christmas is coming up but these eBay prices are insane you guys know any other websites besides eBay and fb marketplace?

It's all in the games library, so if you want o play those get it.
Nothing like original hardware, and the emulator only works for like half the games and not always at full speed.
So it's one of those consoles you 100% need to have (unlike a PSP for example).
It is getting expensive nowadays even beat second hand models come at $100.

If you are interested in vita and psp specifically, yes. If you want simply to emulate stuff like snes and ps1, I'd recommend one of these chinese portables like anbernic.

Which is kinda crazy but the vita is worth it I always loved it but never had one as a kid always played with my friends

If they do have it, then go for it man
It's better to buy it as quick as you can (especially the one with a bargain price) as long as you don't regret it

If you do get one, you'll probably want to softmod it so you can use the memory card adapter. The official memory cards are much smaller compared to micro SD cards you can find today and are more expensive. Just keep in mind that you will need one of the official memory cards if you get the first iteration of the Vita. It barely had any internal memory.

Yes, you should get one if you truly want it. As others have said, emulators still leave a lot to be desired (and it's a pretty damn good-looking piece of hardware). That said, I'd avoid auction sites and big marketplaces... If there is something that hasn't changed in the last 25 years is the amount of people willing to attach a ridiculous price tag on anything that casts as a shadow, especially if that something is perceived as "collectible".

I’m seeing people charge 130 for there vita that has millions of stickers on it and no charger like yo no one wants that 😭

I would say it's absolutely worth it if you can find one for a good price. I got mine a few years back for like $40 from Facebook Marketplace, real good deal even back then. Check places like that and when one comes up, they are usually more reasonable than the ones on Ebay or places like that. I use mine for Retroarch, it doubles as a PSP and it has a pretty good library of JRPGs.

It's worth it. There's some great exclusives (freedom wars, Soul Sacrifice Delta, Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, Playstation all stars. Etc). A lot of great JRPG (for example all the PS3 Atelier games are on the vita plus three that are on ps4 and the Neptunia series is there too). Also you can play psp games without problems. The only downside are the emulators if you want to play Snes better use a 3ds or a chinese mini console. And in the case of the GBA you have to install the emulator that the psp uses.

If you want an upgraded PSP then yes. The Vita has SOME solid games, emphasis on some. There are some good homebrews ports with some problems but its bearable. Before buying I suggest doing research on how shotty the L & R buttons are and the left & right sticks and hall effect sticks that the PS Vita 1000 has because you're not going to enjoy playing PSP (especially Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker) & PS1 dualshock games with the PS Vita 2000.

Funny i actually just started playing MGS peace walker the controls feel really good I feel like old MGS games were meant to be played on psp now cause it matches perfectly

I bought an original model not too long ago, I think it’s a pch 1004, so it’s one of the OLED ones. The thing is, that it’s a great console, and its bast library doesn’t dissapoint, BUT, I’ve had to change several parts, specially in the last two years, these being : the D-pad motherboard, the right joystick, and the screen. The repairs aren’t cheap, specially if you don’t know how to do them yourself.

So, it’s a great console overall, but eventually it will break, at least you can buy replacements from aliexpress, but, despite that, I still recommend it (sorry for my bad English I’m a foreigner)

The Vita is a nice console but, yes, it can be very expensive to buy or justify buying. In addition, as the hardware is on the older side, will you be OK with replacing parts (cost, time, etc.)?

What you could do is to outlines the pros/cons as to why you want to pick up a unit.

Running games on the original hardware is great but I also know some folks prefer to emulate it. Keep in mind though there are games which can't be played via the emulator (doesn't boot up, has some game breaking part-way through or, is a fan translated game that doesn't work on the emulator although the base game is fine).

I dunno if a Vita's worth it in 2024 heading into 2025. Vita3k's been rapidly advancing in compatibility over the last couple years and most of the noteworthy titles have been ported to Steam and elsewhere, and it seems like it's starting to hit the point in the nostalgia cycle where it's getting more expensive and everything's starting to wear down.

Buy the Vita from a Japanese seller on eBay, it’s a lot cheaper. They keep their hardware is great shape. You can change the language to English on the Vita.
I definitely recommend the Vita. It has a lot of great games.
