A conversion I created of the original GBC Shantae game into a GBA Rom using this tool which not only allows it to run on any Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS (that support GBA) but also GBA emulators that do not support the original Gameboy such as No$GBA. However, this tool also adds some extra features built into the Rom itself, by pressing (R+L) on a GBA it brings up a menu of which you can toggle between several options such as Super Gameboy support, Save States, and most importantly unlock GBA exclusive features of which this game supports, enabling […]

Okay I changed the name to "converted" so people stop making drama. Better to avoid confusion since it's really a port, like, programmed and all that, just a conversion via software.

Does anyone know how to play this? My emulator is Linkboy
Idk about Linkboy but I playef this on mGBA, VBA, spGBA and RetroArch as well as real hardware via EZ Flash and OpenAGB Firm.

Are you sure? I dunno, seems to be working fine, titke screen shows the GBA Enhanced logo and I downloaded and tested a complete save and I got the Tinkerbat transformation just fine, talking to the girl in Bandit Town she teaches me the Tinkerbat Dance combination instead of the infamous "you are not advanced enough" line, I really don't know what to tell you, the description of the patch did not mention needing to apply any other patches it simply mentions the other ine referring to the brighter colors 🤷‍♂️
Huh, that's interesting.
The first line of the description says "THIS PATCH DOES NOT FORCE GBA MODE. This patch is compatible with the Force GBA Enhanced Mode patch." so I figured it needed the other patch.
But if everything worked, then great. Nevermind.

The one I accidentally linked only changes the color palette back to the original GBC colors. It doesn't force GBA mode. The palette hack is something that gets applied on top of the Force GBA hack. The "GBA Enhanced" logo is probably there because it needs to be.

Huh... what's the difference? I tested the other patch and it does say "GBA Enhanced" at the title screen, I haven't tested all the way to unlock the Tinkerbat transformation as it comes fairly late in the game.

Edit: Reading the description it seems the main difference is the GBA Enhanced mode brightens the colors while the other hack keeps the original colors, unless there are glitches or downsides I think I will stick with the one you shared earlier, I prefer those colors anyway, thanks again.

If you want the GBA specific features, you're better off using these romhacks since it will let you play in a GBC emulator instead of a GBA emulator with subpar GBC emulation.

Shantae
The Legend of Zelda - Oracle of Ages
The Legend of Zelda - Oracle of Seasons
Mega Man Xtreme 2
Wendy - Every Witch Way
@Juiceala
Wasn't sure if you noticed but I accidentally linked the wrong hack for Shantae. The one I linked is just a palette patch but it does contain a link to the GBA mode patch.

Here's the GBA mode patch directly.

Oh I was hoping something like this existed, thank you for this, I will let the guys know about it, it's certainly a better method than the approach I took, really wish I knew of this hack, thank you so much.

Edit: I patched the Rom from the link you shared https://www.mediafire.com/file/qlbf2ypl8dkhbub/Shantae_%28USA%29_GBA_Enhanced_Enabled_Hack.gbc/file

A question, and you could not also achieve this Conversion with The Zelda Oracles?, These also have some exclusive GBA features,As an Exclusive store (and obviously the whitest color palette) so you can play it on GBA Emulators too 👌🙏. (Thanks in advance for the answer)

It's because Goomba is a hombrew app coded to run on a Game Boy Advance, specifically an emulator, originally designed to be used standalone on flashcarts but has since been bundled along modern Flashcart firmwares or using a tool like OP's to glue both the .gbc/.gb rom alongside Goomba in a single .gba package.

Even though the final output is a single .gba file, inside it there is still the .gbc rom of Shantae, then when you boot it, it runs a script to start goomba and automatically load the gameboy rom.

Contrary to a port which would be running both the logic and the assets from the original game specifically coded for the gameboy advance processing unit.
Completely unrelated: your Icon is adorable

You got a point, x'd/. But the game archive has the .gba extension, not the .gbc, so, how does it work on GBA emus: using the Goomba emu or like a standalone game? :v??

Can u injected other gbc games like mario la d 2 dx etc
I already did for myself a while ago, like I said this also enables SGB support so games that take advantage of that wither getting colors or enhanced audio work, you can also combine multiple games into one so you can make your own collections, it's a very useful tool.

But the reason why I made this specific one and shared it is so to preserve the GBA specific features, in this case an exclusive transformation you can only optain with this version, not even included in the official re-releases of the game.

maybe call it "conversion"?
Let's go then!!! Port is fine. :D
I thought your idea of "port" makes perfect since, originally I was gonna lable it as port as well but I remember in the tutorial it said to use "Hack" instead, I honestly don't know of which category this would fit but it's certainly a "port" for the GBA, I mean they even refer to official collections that use Emulators as "ports".
My fault, if it's a problem. I added the "(port)" mark in the title 'cause I thought it would be interesting to sinalize this game is not a native gba release. @Juiceala originally put it as "(hack)" but it doesn't seem right too?? I don't know, maybe with game like these we could leave the name clean, but add a "port" tag/category to make it easier to find conversios/ports and stuff like that grouped in a single page. Any ideas?

I thought all unlicensed ports were homebrews, lol, x'd/. But I didn't know some of them were emulated, :'d. So, I suggest the name "emubrews" for them, because some of them like this game are emulated, :'). Or "emuportbrews" or "lattebrews", :d, it reads more chévere, haha! xd/<3

Thanks for your "emuportbrew", bro, ^-^-<3. Do you have the "GBC2GBA" option to write in the description square? :d?

I think this should be renamed, this is not a port as everyone has pointed out its just a bundled rom with a Gameboy emulator made for Gameboy Advance flashcarts, which has some problems like choppy framerates and some scrolling issues in multiple games.

Also this hasn't even been updated since 2005 lol.

Calling it a port is a bit misleading because this game is clearly not gonna run like the original hardware.

Bro, it's not a port if it's running on an emulator. The menu screenshot shows its running on goomba color.
Good point, lol, x'd/.
