Series That Go Too Far?

I've watched The Lost World: Jurassic Park, as it's called, more than the original as a kid, because that's the one I had on VHS... So maybe I have nostalgia goggles or something, but it's actually good. I mean you reach levels of Goldblum previously unimaginable by making Professor Malcolm the lead. And the movie had a few sick set pieces. And it was a bit darker, more gruesome, and I respect that they didn't make it kiddy like pretty much everything after.

Jurassic Park 3 does absolutely nothing for me. It's a total rehash of ideas from the first one, in a way that makes it more of a sequel to 1 than Lost World. This is the movie where thing start to go sour. This is when they started trying to make a bigger, better dinosaur than the T. Rex. And using Spinosaurus is just a goofy design with his stupid duck head, when you have Allosaurus and Tarbosaurus right there that look reasonably T. Rexy.

Jurassic World at least had meta commentary about how it's a bad idea to try to recreate the original. And how the directors of the park in the movies, by trying to make a bigger dinosaur than the original to make more money, are a reflection of the movie producers themselves.

I remember one scene with Jake Johnson where he's wearing a Jurassic Park T-shirt and his supervisor tells him that it's insensitive, because people died there. And his answer is that "the first park was just so... legit". That sums up the attitude of World. Basically an admission that nothing can beat the original, but also, they have to do this because they have to sell T-shirts. Something like that.

That's where they should have stopped. You make one nostalgia bait movie, wink at the audience like we're all so clever, then move on to something else. But somehow, there's 3 more movies? I haven't seen them, I lost interest a while ago.
I somehow agree with you .
The Third JP movie could have led into more secretive parts of the park that showed more why the park wasnt researched or even cleansed from its dinosaur existence alot long time ago . Even the N-gen stuff could have been more interesting and fleshed out . And i agree with the spinosaur that didnt needed to be the "stronger dinosaur" in the movie .

While JW1 had its great moments , there was alot of typical idiotic moments that ruined the movie and sometimes became a parody of JP1 . ( yeah even JP 2 and 3 had those braindead moments but not in such severity ) I miss the credability that those workers in the park were truly profesionals and not bumbling idiots how the movie showed . This always questions me , how the park actually became so functional if almost everyone is some sort of unmotivated idiot that goes halfheartedly at their job while their responsibility must be very high to asure the safety of the visitors outside the dominus rex hoopla and what are their effective plan Bs and Cs should be if something like this happens ?

Oh and the part with the military getting a hard one by using dinosaurs as their military weaponry which is absolutely retarded in the highest way possible . And i still laugh at that idea .

JW alone wasnt really good . Nice popcorn flick but the story was a joke.

The original Jurassic Park is a cautionary tale. It's the tragedy of John Hammond with his flea circus, trying to make people happy in face of inevitable failure. I can't believe I'm gonna make that comparison, but it's a lot like Citizen Kane in that regard.

The main characters, symbolically, are there to give Hammond an intervention. But he is actually unable to listen to their advice, and that's where the crux of his tragedy is. Why hire experts in paleontology to evaluate the park when we're far enough into the construction for a guided tour?

That's why the best scene is the one in the dining room between Professor Satler and John Hammond. She's basically telling him to listen to reason, and that people are in danger, his own family, too.

We can all have a laugh about the "series" as a whole, but the original movie is one of the best of all time. It's not even close. Everything is solid, from the performances, the cinematography is impeccable, of course you have the score. It's memorable in every single way.
