Sengoku (MAME).png

Sengoku is a beat 'em up arcade game. It is the first entry of the Sengoku trilogy by SNK. It was ported to numerous home consoles including the Neo Geo, Neo Geo CD, Mega-CD and Super Famicom. The arcade version was part of SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1, released in 2008. The Neo Geo version was re-released on the Japanese Virtual Console in 2011, with the sequels for the North American Virtual Console on November 8, 2012 (Sengoku 2) and June 6, 2013 (Sengoku 3) and for the PAL region on February 7, 2013 (Sengoku 2) and September 5, 2013 (Sengoku 3). In 2009 the series was compiled on the Sengoku Anthology for PlayStation 2 and Windows.

Had the rare occasion to play this when I was a kid, but not intentionally. When I was young, they used to have this Neo Geo cabinet that had multiple games in one. I mainly wanted to play it for King of Fighters 1998 and one day it wasn't there anymore after I had popped in my quarter so I ended up playing Sengoku instead. Despite begrudgingly wanting to play KoF instead of Sengoku, I did enjoy my time and the visuals of it stayed in my mind many years on from it.

Can say I do enjoy it as a simple beat em up, Sengoku 3 being the most fun in the series IMO

Indeed, 3 is the best of them. The others were poorly designed, you punched the guys and they punched back aside when you punched them it didnt seem you punched them. The animation could have been better, But 3 fixed all of those.

I played this a few times in the arcades, but I am not too big a fan of it. I do see it as so bad it's good, in an entertaining way. Sengoku 3 is the best of the bunch, but drags on much longer than the second game, and lacks enemy variety of either previous games.
