Described as an FPS starring a pair of smartly-dressed police officers who aim to tackle a terrorist group in a sun-kissed seaside location, it's clear to see where Vigilant Paradise got its inspiration – if this had a bigger budget behind it, we might even have seen Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas on the title screen. It utilizes both Saturn CPU's, both VDP's, all standard memory chips, CD audio, and PCM playback.

10 bucks. Apparently it's full of bugs.

Amazing!

It is really cool to see new games on older consoles. Maybe one day we can all start a trend.

So, to confirm for people, it IS a paid homebrew. It’s not a demo, but a finished project. It’s a first person shooter with that classic Miami Vice aesthetic. Pretty blocky, but that makes sense since it was made entirely without the modern “Saturn Rings” homebrew tools library. The game appears to be a tad flickery, as PhaseJump said. I would watch footage from the game before you go spending the $10 on it.

Here’s Shiro! Media Group’s coverage on the game, with them playing the game themselves.

In all, I would also to not expect many 2D Saturn homebrews in the upcoming future. Much of the homebrew community’s focus seems to be set on figuring out how to push 3D development tools and attempting to perhaps push the limits of what the Saturn could do with 3D. That said, this is cool just for the simple fact that it proves a point: that being that you CAN release a full 3D game on Saturn in the modern day. Hopefully, with the new tools the community has been working on, we can see even better games in the future!

I personally would love Cube Cat to get a finished and polished release like this, as the most recent demo I played has potential to be a fun game, if its janky gameplay was ironed out a lot more.
