Thoughts on RPGs on Sega's home consoles and beyond? Obviously the Phantasy Star series is pretty well known and somewhat respected

But it seems to be a curious sticking point to everybody (especially on the Genesis) that Sega was mostly a "Sonic and sports ball" machine for the longest time. And yeah, while the RPGs were few and far between at times, most if not all were quality

Some of my favorites are
-Arcus Odyssey
-King Colossus
-Shining In The Darkness (need to spend more time with it's sister series, Shining Force because I do love tactical rugs, as tedious as they can be)
-Wonderboy In Monster World (I do like Monster World 4 too, but not as much as Wonderboy)

Crusader of Centy is great. (Note: Depending on which version of the game you play, the story's tone is different due to Atlus publish the US version and Sega publishing the PAL Version.)

Obligatory Sword of Vermilion shoutout, since most of the other notables have been covered.

haven't played it yet but shining the holy ark for the saturn is VERY much up my alley. I wish I could just materialize a saturn in front of me sometimes (?

Not one mention of Grandia II? For shame.

The Game Arts RPG published by Ubisoft that most people played on Playstation 2 and PC?

1. The thread doesn't specify that it has to be a Sega joint, it just has to be on one of their consoles.
2. While it was available elsewhere it's the DC that houses the definitive edition, at least as far as the original release goes and I say this as a PC guy. Dunno about the remasters.

I thought it just meant SEGA RPGs in general via the "and beyond" oopsie

I recently learned a bit of fun trivia. One of the achievements from Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed ("Takes AGES") has a cute little image of Taro from Segagaga, technically marking his only overseas debut lmao

I've also heard tales that Saturn is the best version of Grandia 1 as well.
