Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
Last month, I contemplated on replacing the arranged soundtracks for OutRun, After Burner II, and Galaxy Force II for the Sega Saturn with the soundtracks from their FM Towns releases, at least for the latter two; OutRun never was released for the FM Towns (Turbo OutRun did have a FM Towns release however), so instead I opted for S.S.T. Band's re-arranged soundtracks. Of course I found out that you can just convert the .flac files to .wav via Audacity and rename the .wav files to .bin, and the games will still recognize them.

You'll need the Redump files for said games (Redump links for references):
Sega Ages: OutRun (Version 1.102)
Sega Ages: After Burner II
Sega Ages: Galaxy Force II
Update:
3 June 2026:
- Updated the Galaxy Force II FM Towns archive to include two S.S.T. Band songs (Beyond the Galaxy and Defeat) as an extra bonus.
- I now have a SegaXtreme account, so some of my hacks will be mirrored on there. SegaXtreme Mirror
14 May 2026:
- Extended the OutRun S.S.T. Band soundtrack (to the best of my abilities), so they should likely not be silent near the end of the route. I also replaced them with different source files (I initially used the ones from the 30th Anniversary Box, but they were loud to the point of clipping, so I opted to used the ones from their original release albums). ... And now I just remembered that I forgot to include the "Magical Sound Shower (Rhythm Retake Remix)" version. Oh well, I wanted to get this out of the way first.
- Added in a higher quality version of the original OutRun tracks, which also includes a fix for those noisy drums that was discovered back in around 2006 or 2007. After Burner II, Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, and Galaxy Force II coming soon.
Notes (please read before trying these out):
- For After Burner II's soundtrack, The FM Towns soundtrack replaces the Rev.A music by default as to not replace the original soundtrack. You need to go to the options menu and press R (right shoulder button) and set the BGM Mode to "With Melody". If that sounds cumbersome (and it is), then feel free to rename the replacement files to either the Rev.B music or the AB1 music (use the track list file that comes with the soundtrack for reference).
- The replacement soundtracks are shorter than the original arranged soundtracks, and I haven't fully tested them. I can confirm that they do work on actual hardware. If you have issues with the looping or whatever, I'll try my best to rectify the issue.
- If you're up for it, you can try to replace the soundtrack from the western Sega Ages: Volume 1 release, though I can't guarantee that it'll work.
- I initially wanted to do Sega Ages: Space Harrier, but because there weren't any arranged soundtracks for the game (and I DO mean the entire game's soundtrack), I decided to not bother for the time being.
- For those wondering: "Why not just use Cannonball for OutRun?" You know, I could, considering that Cannonball supports custom .wav files. But considering that neither After Burner II nor Galaxy Force II have the Cannonball treatment, as well as other SEGA classics not named "Sonic", this project was to prove that I CAN replace the soundtrack on the Sega Saturn.
- MFW no Sega Saturn ports of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, Alien Storm, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, Wonder Boy, Gain Ground, Crack Down, Bonanza Bros., Alien Syndrome, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Last Survivor, Super Monaco GP, A.B. Cop, GP Rider, Thunder Blade, G-LOC, Strike Fighter, and Rail Chase...
