Hey all, tried searching for this topic on the forum, but couldn't find anything.

Recently got PCSX2 working on my ASUS ROG Ally, and the emulation mostly runs terrifically well. When I'm playing on the handheld console screen, everything looks a-okay, but when I use an HDMI to play on the tv in my living room there's noticeable screentearing. A cursory google suggested enabling v-sync within the emulator's settings and while it did eliminate the tearing, the game started chugging along as if in slow-motion. Tested it with both "ICO" and "Fatal Frame II", with the same results.

Obviously, I can live with a little screentearing if need be (I'm just stoked to play Fatal Frame on the tv again tbh), but I figured it was worth asking here to see if anyone had any ideas for fixes, because it is annoying. I'm relatively new to emulating anything beyond 16-bit era, and feel sort of lost on the tech side of things. Would this be a problem with the console or the monitor? Thanks in advance!

I play on the steam deck and this only happens to me with the dreamcast emulator i noticed, was playing MvC2 there and it was very strange the tearing around the sprites

ICO was capped at 30 FPS on the real hardware IIRC. At least that was the case for the PS3 HD remaster. Maybe enabling V-Sync and Limit FPS to 30?

Another thing you might try if you can is checking in your tv settings to see if it has a gaming mode.

Its pretty common for tv's to have issues because they generally aren't made to deal with variable frame rates. So if you are using a heavier emu like ps2 would be it could be the tv itself or even something as strange as the hdmi cable you are using.

If you can use an actual computer monitor instead of a tv you might have better luck generally.
if your tv is your only big screen option mess with frame rate caps and even frame skipping if your emu has those settings.

Usually the default setting for PCSX2 for V-Sync is off due to input lag. Does your TV support VRR or Freesync? Which model ASUS Rog Ally are you using?
