Scary Game Overs

If bootleg games count, one of the most infamous bootleg screens is a scary game over.

While it’s funny in some respect out of context, it takes a different tone when you don’t know it’s coming and happens in a flash after you choose to not continue your game after losing all your lives.

one that used to really freak me out as a kid was donkey kong 64, i never owned the game but i saw the game over cutscene on youtube and it really got to me for some reason. i think it was k. rool's eyes, i didn't like how cracked out he looked.

another one that stuck with me was one i also saw on youtube, Live-A-Live, specifically the game over in the sci-fi chapter. i watched a video by whoisthisgit about it and something about the screen saying that cube never made it to earth, where cube is smashed to pieces... agh, it always creeped me out.

Metroid Prime's game over screen is cool and all but it did freak me out when I first saw it.
OH YEAH! No, the worst is when it comes after a Metroid attack. Something about a creature lunging at your face, even in a video game, causes an extremely visceral reaction from me. Head crabs cause the same problem, but Metroids are worse because they actually attach to your head, so your POV becomes the horrible insides of a life-sucking super jellyfish.

This was already posted apparently so time to get new material

The Nosferatu snes cinematic platformer. just a creepy picture that slightly changes on road to the bad ending.

Oh, wow. This is actually deeply unsettling. I don’t know what it is, but messed up faces are always a big thing that gets me.

I remember watching AVGN's review of Hong Kong 97 when I was young and being shocked with the game over screen of what looks like to be an irl dead person I think.

Whatever this fucking bullshit I was exposed to at the ripe young age of 6 one random afternoon when my dad read one of the SNES games on the rompack list was called “Felix the cat” and told me “Hey I watched that when I was little you should try it!” is:

Would be a fun anecdote if it weren't for the fact that 99% of people I meet don't know anything about romhacks and emulation lol
