You know what I'm talking about, you're little playing your game, making your way through having a good time. Then your happy ass stops dead in your tracks, you lock up, sense of dread.

By the time you eventually gain the courage to continue, you feel a sense of relief, but the creepy feeling still lingers, wondering if it's gonna be the last time.

Happened to me playing the original Tomb Raider on PS1, the damn crocodiles in the water left me feeling petrified, would take a while until I could continue on sometimes. As a kid that shit scared me senseless.

In general that game had a lot of scary sections.

The early bits of Fallout 76 were like this for me. I wasn't sure what I was strong enough to fight yet, so I did a ton of sneaking and just watching enemies patrol. Once you get a few perks it's less of an issue, but it was kind of fun just creeping around, albeit a bit slow going.

This video I saw talked about a creepy haunted house game in this roller coaster tycoon like game.
Crazy video, love stuff like this, creepypastas, scary glitches, easter eggs in games.

Oh and I love the Roller Coaster Tycoon games, grew up playing the hell out of them as a kid.

There's this dark ass warehouse you have to wander around in the Sam Raimi Spider-man game that always used to freak me out. Stealth was optional, but if you failed you'd get jump scared by a bunch of thugs. The dingy atmosphere of the place certainly didn't help either. I also remember thinking the big oil stains on the floor where puddles of blood.
Having now finished the game as an adult, I realize the later stealth missions probably would have spooked me too. Never got to see those back then because as a kid I would always get stuck at the tower with Vulture. Kid me was to dumb and couldn't figure out how to climb up. 😅

Uh , I got a few, but the most scary could be The Sorrow fight on Metal Gear Solid 3, in that kind of Styx River scenario they did on the game, you can see ghosts of everything you "defeated", and if thats not enough, yeah, Sorrow just throws some kind of "Beam Attack" at you, if you dont avoid that, well, JUMPSCAREEEEEEE.

The first time had to pause a few time just to recover myself and some random swearings, now its different, I just only have random laughs. I see what Kojima did with that one.

That part was iconic, and really unexpected! Threw me off too when I played it, really cool segment!

That part in Fallout New Vegas when the invisible super mutants appears and attacks you from nowhere jumpscared me a little the first time

Hands down, that chapter in the first Max Payne when Max is drugged up and you re-live the attack on this family in his dreams. It was a unexpectedly disturbing gaming moment, but also a really powerful bit of interactive story telling and character trauma rendition. I was relieved when it was over though.

Else, when I was a little kid, I got Kid Icarus for my NES and couldnt get past the first stage because every time I would run into that first reaper, the moment it started going berserk and sending mini reapers after me, together with that suddenly weird dissonant music, I FREAKED THE HELL OUT ! I tried a few more times but would end up casting myself down the void instead and not have to fight it cause it scared me off so much. :ROFLMAO:
I would then just stop the game, heart racing and palms sweaty.

It's funny looking back how much these crude pixels managed to stress me out.

That section of Phendrana Drifts in the first Metroid Prime where the power goes out and you have to work your way out of the space pirate base in the dark.

Ocarina of Time's Shadow Temple.
Good ones, the well in OOT is even creepier than the shadow temple IMHO.

Other Zeldas have scary bits, from Wind Waker's Redeads (the worse version of them) to the Silent Realms in Skyward Sword.

When I was a kid what we had was Atari 2600, not because I'm that old but in my country such technology came late so we had nothing to play other than some weird handheld game consoles like fake Game & Watch and Casio stuff. Atari 2600 due to its simple not detailed graphics fuels your imagination that contributes to non-horror games having "horror elements" especially when things are confusing, unknown and WTF moments. I guess this game is the most WTF Atari 2600 game I played back then lol:

Surprised no one has mentioned Ravenholm from Half-Life 2. That part was terrifying.
Pah that's nothing!!! Then I shall mention once upon a time in Fallout New Vegas during the night I accidentally fell somewhere and turned my back and I saw a cute family of deathclaws just in front of me!! Ma dai!!! It turned out I fell onto their nest lolol. Then after being scared the bejesus out of me I killed them one by one and took their eggs to cook da Deathclaw Omelette™©℗®. Mamma mia!!!

And this is the deathclaw lolol:

Recently I was exploring point and click adventure type games and discovered Syberia. The game was good but the atmosphere gave off survival horror the entire time, even though i do not think you can die in the entire game. It's dark, most of the people are robot toys, and the music is creepy as well.

I remember seeing it for the PS2 and Xbox, but never played it.
