I feel like 《Satoshi Kon》's Works in film should be recognized more in the west than they do in the East, He's made some absolutely heart-wrenching stuff, I was even planning to have my family watch the 《Millennium Actress》 film with Me this coming Sunday, And let's not forget his (amazing) Partner-in-crime: 《Susumu Hirasawa》. This man is THE greatest Musician/Composer for anything EVER. He makes Songs that make sure to play the strings of Your heart; into a symphony, JUST BECAUSE HE CAN! The song(s) 《Prince of Key》/《Nigredo》 (Lyrical/Original Version of Prince of Key) and 《The Girl in the White Tiger Field》 are absolutely AMAZING tracks for Film, EVER!

《Susumu Hirasawa》really shines during the《Paprika》era of Satoshi Kon Films; 《Tokyo Grandfathers》 and the Anime 《Paranoia Agent》, They all have music that is PERFECT in evoking the same feelings of masked existential dread that the characters feel during the Films/Anime.

Both 《Satoshi Kon》 and 《Susumu Hirasawa》 leave a Legacy of remarkable talent for those who want to view it, Especially 《Susumu Hirasawa》, still making great music even at 71-Years-Old. But I genuinely hope this will inspire someone to broaden their tastes in Music and Film, even if it's just a small stepping stone for it.

The death of Satoshi Kon was a serious blow to the acceptance of Japanimation in the West as serious adult cinema, as many fans and cinema lovers lost interest in it.

Not much difference in the lower echelons of fans though

The animations in his movies are always impressive and emotive. I guess anime and especially anime cinema is still kind of Niche in the West,my theory on why you tend to see a lot more of Ghibli (That is still in cult territory as far as i know) Because they had a bigger marketing pushy in the USA and Canada when Disney distributed them, they (mostly) also play better to a younger audience. in comparison to the rich mature themes in Satoshi Kon films and the west notion that animation can only appeal to children and young teens has just started to shed now.
