Originally I wanted to make yet another "Same Name, Different Game" discussion, but I'm sure we all had dozens of these before, so instead, out of curiosity I decided to go with the opposite...

Same Game, Different Name!
IMG_0206.jpegIMG_0207.jpeg
"Adventure Island" vs "Wonderboy"!
IMG_0204.jpegIMG_0205.jpeg
"Space Silicon Valley" vs "EVO's Space Adventures"!
IMG_0202.jpegIMG_0203.png
"Shove It" vs "Super Soukoban"!

I suppose games with different regional names qualify, but not upgraded ports, and it has to be the same game, not a game that looks or plays similar, not another entry of a series, same exact game but with a different title, can you think of any?

I can only think of regional differences.

Like a Dragon being the original Japanese name for the franchise, while Yakuza was the western one? So Yakuza 1 here would've been Like A Dragon 1 in Japan and so on.

The Yakuza spin-off, Judgment, was also called "Judge Eyes" in Japan.

And the Persona 3 & 5 rhythm games were called Dancing Moon Night & Dancing Star Light respectively in Japan, while they were called Dancing in Moonlight & Dancing in Starlight here.

Do those count?::thinking

👍
Thought of another

I guess these qualify since they are ports with different titles despite being the exact same game.

Fatal Frame in US, Project Zero in Europe and Zero in Japan

Regarding Project Zero/Fatal Frame, I believe that the franchise will be rebranded Fatal Frame in Europe too by the next episode. This is what the latest press release (see attached) and trailer led me to think.

I knew it as Project Zero for the longest time, but I'm confident it's more known by it's Fatal Frame name so it makes sense why they'd choose that. Either that or it was a matter of preferences. And Project Zero is a common name.

Same game, different region. These are the US and European covers respectively. Below is the Japanese cover.

The latter is the French edition. Why? Because apparently 'deception' is French for 'disappointment'.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this:
"Happy Star Band" (JP)/ "Rockin' Pretty" (US)/ "Making the Music" (EU)

Or THESE:
"Kira Kira Music Hour" (JP)/ "Kira Kira Pop Princess" (EU)
"Kira Kira Music Night" (JP)/ "Pop Town" (EU)

[Actually, I just found ANOTHER ONE while grabbing these images. It's a game that I didn't even know existed.]
["Survival Kids: Lost in Blue" (JP)/ "Lost in Blue" (US & EU)]
[Just when I thought this franchise was ONLY comprised of two Game Boy games lol.]

The absolute mess that is the Wonder Boy series on the PC Engine.

This is not Hudson's Adventure Island, this is actually Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.
On the TurboGrafx16 it's known as Dragon's Curse.

Dynastic Hero
This one is Wonder Boy in Monster World.
Was also released on the TurboGrafx16 under the same name.

Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair is the only game on the PC Engine to actually use the Wonder Boy name.
Except for the TurboGrafx16 version for some reason.
