I love this franchise! I grew up with the original releases of the Telltale games and the cartoon. The second season of the Telltale series is my favourite, and I didn’t really like the third, but they’re still all neat games. I was just humming the “N-O-M-A-F-I-A” song last night, and I think of the “War (What is it Good For?)” song constantly. My fave ep is the one where Max becomes the president.

I haven’t played any of the newer games, but I don’t really like how the Telltale remakes look. Also, while it’s nice to see new generations of kids get into them………. I hope it’s not just because screwed-up sexual Internet deviants want to fuck Max.

I prefer Sam’s original voice from the cartoon by a pretty significant margin, but the new guy isn’t bad. There’s a funny joke about it in the second Poker Night at the Inventory game, another series which I really like. That cartoon was really good, too — the level of writing was extremely intelligent.

I’ve never been able to look at these characters the same way after seeing the political comics Steven Purcell made in 2020, unfortunately — those were a bit of a childhood-destroyer. That guy is effed up! Did you know he directed Pixar’s Brave? Maybe if Sam and Max were in that movie, it wouldn’t have been so monstrously boring.

On a general note. I’m a big fan of Telltale’s more esoteric works such as Wallace & Gromit, Strong Bad and Tales of Monkey Island (I know the last is unpopular but I thought it was ok)

I have memories of playing 'Sam & Max Hit The Road' on a Pentium 100MHz that my cousin owned when I was a kid. It was his father's workstation PC, strictly for work, so we were told not to mess with it! For context I didn’t have my own PC until I was 18 and could afford one with my earnings. Anyway...I remember having no clue how the concept of point-and-click worked. I tried to perform an action that wasn’t possible, and Max would tell us in all sorts of ways, "You can’t use this object here" But we were obnoxious kids from the '90s, so we kept trying regardless. At one point, Max said something like, 'I told you I can’t use object #001743 here.' I found it amusing that he was straight-up telling us the item ID.
Beyond that game, we never saw or heard about those characters anywhere else.
And that’s my Sam & Max story. ::rolleyes

Easily one of the best moments in the game:

Abe Lincon Must DIE!
I remember getting this one for free on Steam, but the humor flew right over my head, probably a mix of being young and not American. I've always wanted to get back into this series as an adult though.

I was all about the original game, back on the good, old DOS times.

As a kid, I didn't really get it and rode with the visuals for entertainment. As an adult, I understand and appreciate the humor quite well. It's a surprisingly intelligent game, actually.

But I still want to know what they did to get banned from traveling upstairs XD

Oh man, I loved those games! I first remember seeing Max pop up in Lucas Arts games and didn't even know he wasn't just a mascot until I played Sam & Max Hit The Road. I loved it so much that when I found a collection of Sam & Max comics at Chapters, I bought it in a heart beat. The original Telltale games were great and I was disappointed when they stopped making them to focus on bigger IP like Batman and The Walking Dead.

Didn't know Steve Purcell made comics in the 2020s but I'll take Gorse's word and give them a miss. Politics and The internet sadly is a hazardous cocktail for people.

How do you feel about his old VA compared to his TElltale VA? @Gorse
And what about the rest of you guys?
And what about the droid attack on the Wookiees?
I think his Old Va is quite a Chad, but his new VA? Really smooooooth

I've always been partial to cartoon VA (according to IMDB his name was Harvey Atkin, RIP) but the TellTale VA (David Nowlin) was also solid. Mr. Atkin gave more of a seasoned take on Sam and I loved that.

I love those two guys. I watched a playthrough of the DOS game and absolutely loved it, then went to read the comic and am corrently playing thorugh the first of the telltale remakes. I love the humour. And, since I haven't seen it, I should really check out the cartoon!

Haha I guess I’m the only one here who owns the telltale originals (but did get the remakes)

I vaguely remember seeing a copy around in a store a long time ago, but I didn't really know about it and didn't pay it much attention. Nowadays I wish I did! Maybe I'll try to get some second-hand copies and join the club haha
