Rule of Cool: Good Guys vs Bad Guys

The Bad guys are often actively recruiting, whilst the Good guys aren't. That requires, to quote good old Megamind.... PRESENTATION!
The Bad guys are also more than likely drawing from historical aesthetics to validate their ideology.

"We are far from the first bla, bla, bla but we shall be oppressed no more!"

It all stems from the same cognitive disconnect, conformity is boring, the villain want change!
That's inherently interesting yet 95% of writers can not accept this.

>But why are you sympathising with the Bad guys 😭
Because the bad guys had to come from somewhere, they're clearly a reaction to mistreatment.
>Nooo they're just bad because they're evil! 🤬
That's bad writing, are you saying they have no ideology, history or plan for the future?
>S-shut up! Maybe the villains had good ideas at the start but they're evil now okay! 😰

You can't go back to biblical, objective good vs objective evil after a century of rejection.
Modern writers need to prove their intelligence and the only way to do that would be to actually create a compelling ideolog with a history that justifies its adoption. Then, almost always unintentionally the villains become more interesting than the heroes because conformity is boring.

...YOU CAN'T KILL THE MESSIAH...

Reading this immediately makes me think of "Stella Deus", and of I was almost rooting for the bad guy (the red moustached man in the background) because he seemed to be the only one willing to fight for a better destiny (now I don't remember the story, but while playing I clearly remember I was thinking he was right). Also, he looks badass.
