Hey there, i'm looking for older RPG's to play that i've failed to run into or discover. I grew up on the PS2 and GBA but I didn't really play RPG's often until my late 20's. I was always a big Pokemon fan but I can't remember other RPG's that i've played. I never had the Gamecube but i did have the NDS and GBA SP. I recently got into Fire Emblem and I really enjoyed 3H so I went back to play older titles. I was really enjoying Path of Radiance but i actually lost files recently and failed to finish it, i also couldn't finish the newer Fire Emblem either because of my loss of files. This is probably also my first time on a Forum, in over a lot of years and I haven't thought of till now to finally use it and maybe find someone willing to talk with me. I really do want to finish both Fire Emblem games but starting over is a pain. Lately i've been finding it much much harder to finish a game, maybe due to my ADHD I have no idea, I get to a point in a game and if it gets too time consuming I end up dropping it. FE: Engage I've been playing some DLC and it was hard, and so i dropped it. Had I just lowered the difficulty I would have finished the game long before I even loss the files I did. Currently playing FF 12? I think the one with Vaan and currently stuck in the Great Crystal and I'm ready to drop the game there because it was far worse than when I was stuck in the Fade in DA:O. I want to get back into RPG's and actually finish these games but its hard, I feel like i've missed out on so much. I have no where to even begin. There were some JRPG's I saw a friend play on the DS once and i never figured out what the name of that game was, just a bunch of anime chicks fighting and transforming. Crazy i always want to talk about what's on my mind but never really had anyone with RPG's in common or if so, not much to talk about.

I'm also looking for some fun RPG's to play on PC. I've played a bit of MH, but recently i'm afraid to purchase games because i'm so afraid that I may end up dropping them later on and I don't want to spend $70 on a game just to drop it. Thanks for reading! Sorry was a bit of a rant. I think.

More of an action game with RPG elements, but definitely check out The Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowwind on PC. Just a warning, it has the worst level up system I've ever seen in any videogame. The game has alot of major flaws, but I still love it. And with it being usually 3 bucks nowadays those are way more easy to cope with then if you bought it full price at launch.

For actual RPGs on PC, the first 2 Elder Scrolls on DOS (Arena and Daggerfall) are typical western RPGs,being first person dungeoncrawlers. They afaik are free on both GOG and Steam. These are way less janky than the 3d games by Bethesda, being fully 2d.

On consoles an IP I really like is Shin Megami Tensei. Very edgy but theres a certain atmosphere other RPGs cant replicate for me. The older games are first person dungeon crawlers, but mixed with JRPG elements. There's Strange Journey on DS and it's remake on 3ds for handhelds.
3 is a cult classic and it's remaster is easily avaible on PC nowadays, but is in the newer format and not a first person dungeon crawler. SMT 4 on 3ds was my personal entry point to the IP, but it's hard to emulate unless you actually own a 3ds.

This is heavily stretching the definition of a RPG, but I recommend the original Rogue for microcomputers to see a more primitive experimental form of the genre. The game is what roguelikes evolved from.

Even if you want more Fire Emblem or Pokemon, there are plenty of hacks here in the Repo section.

Dragon Quest.

Shin Megami Tensei gets my recommendation, although maybe be weary of Persona if you have ADHD issues. They are great RPGs, but very slow burns.

Digimon usually has some good Pokemon-style games, with plenty on the Repo including English fan translations.

Just about anything I've mentioned can be found in some form on the Repo!

yeaah i'm actually playing SMT 5V thats an RPG i was playing before as welll. I never got to finish it, and wasn't planning to drop it. Just couldn't because of loss of files rip. I was enjoying P4G and i barely finished that. Didn't finish P5R and restarted that 5 time so far LOL. Dragon Quest okay okay. I gotta start finishing games smh. Thanks btw!

Maybe something breezy? Something with good forward momentum that isn't too long, so you don't lose interest?

Chrono Trigger is about 25 hours or so the first time around and I think it's really approachable and fun the whole way through.
Or maybe Earthbound might do it? The whimsy tone helps to make that game feel like a very relaxed, light experience - that one should be about 30 hours for a first-timer.

Alternatively maybe something like Live A Live could be an interesting option - that game is structured as a series of vignettes or character stories, so you could sit down and play through one of those, take a break and return whenever?

Or you could try something freaky and see if that shocks your system into the right headspace? Hylics 1 or 2 could work for that. Fantastic soundtracks on those, too.

I have ADHD but hyperfocused on Persona 4 so hard on my first playthrough that I was playing 5 hours with only bathroom breaks without realizing until I looked at the clock.

yeaaah i'm really enjoying SMT 5V and i picked up an old SMT 5 game I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head but holy is it hard. dying and having to do everything all over has been rough. I try not to cheat by saving every 10 seconds though LOL but the music and everything has been really enjoyable. I did play Skyrim and I REALLY enjoyed Skyrim but haven't picked up Morrowind yet ESPECIALLY because of hearing about the bad leveling up system It was an excuse to never even think about picking it up. Daggerfall, never heard of hmm. Thanks btw, i'm going to look into these!

I should mention I have strong positive bias towards Elder Scrolls II & III Goty Edition solely because you can play as a werewolf.

Also theres one really funny infamous glitch in Daggerfall (warning, bit of flashing):

Alternatively, you could try some RPGs that take maybe 10 hours at most? Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion and Steven Universe: Save the Light are two that I really enjoyed, but weren't overly long to finish.

Also, you don't have to finish every game you play. That's something I've learned as I get older, and it works for me. Might not work for you, but food for thought, anyway ::peacemario

I'm seeing Chrono Trigger pop up a bit, and actually years back when I was a kid i used to listen to Dragon God on repeat because I thought it sounded so good but never had the game. Maybe it's time to finally play it. Earthbound i will have to look into as well.. A Live i've never heard of. Thanks btw!

It's kind of hard to get a read on what would exactly scratch your itch here, but the steam sale is going on, so you might just pick up a couple of cheapies and see if that'll do it? Then you're not out a full game price.
Yeah

RPGs are now a super broad genre. It is theoretically possible for you to spend your whole life only interacting with one side of the coin.

There’s WRPGs, CRPGs, SRPGs, TRPGs, Pizza, JRPGs and much more.

My immediate recs for anyone new to JRPGs is dragon quest. For SRPGs, I’d recommend hundred line. For TRPGs, there’s disgaea and shining force.

There’s also phantasy Star which covers every genre and their grandma.

For WRPGs, I’d recommend gathering all of dragon age, elder scrolls, fallout, Witcher and baldurs gate, place them on a roulette dart, blindfold yourself and pray for the best cuz I have yet to finish a WRPG

there’s also dark souls 1 which I fully recommend, it’s a fully functional, bug free, super easy, super wholesome game where nothing ever goes wrong and enemies are nice and welcoming and items are easy to find and there’s a sweet golden knight who’ll treat you kindly and a bald dude who will always have your back (it’s also my third favorite game of all time so I must mention it even with no context)

LOL wow this game looks ancient is that a horse? Werewolf does sound pretty cool, I did play as a Werewolf during Skyrim, i missed A LOT it seems. I didn't really know there were Elder Scrolls games this old. I thought it just Morrowind LOL

Most of my favourite RPGs are on NDS, but you may play some of them on 3DS. No 3DS roms here on repo so I'll put NDS versions and indicate which one have 3DS version:

These ones also have 3DS versions:

This one require you to download a special book (Magic Master (Wizard's Companion)) to progress the game that this link also has the link for the book there:

I wanna play these these days but I have no opinion about them yet:

PS2 has great RPGs too:

IMO PC has most of the big deal RPGs:

- Fallout 1-2 and New Vegas

- Star Wars KOTOR 1

- Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines 1

- Deus Ex 1

- Witcher 3

- Persona 4 and 5

- Tokyo Xanadu eX+

- Star Ocean 4

- Alpha Protocol

- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Phantasy Star, speaking of I played PSO2 for a bit years ago, how is it these days? Dark Souls i never played because honestly i was afraid of struggling. LOL

i have NEVER thought of it that way. I always felt left out or like a was missing a piece of a puzzle, idk its like the achievement hunters but all iwant to do is say i "Finished the game" especially due to my habits of dropping the game completely just finishing 1 made me feel like i did something for myself? Idk maybe that sounds cheesy.

Wait I can pickup any Dragon Quest game and not worry about missing out on anything?

Yeah, it's that kind of series you can play any random game from the series because all have their own thing. However there is "trilogy" logic that only die-hard hardcore very careful players notice and care.

phewww these all look really cool. I've been avoiding Dragon Quest because i didn't know where to begin but i guess i don't need to worry about that. Thanks btw! Going to look into these today!

I believe the only Dragon Quest games with a direct connection are the first three, but even there it's really not particularly important for any of the stories. (Strictly speaking 11 also has a connection to those games, but that one is even less important) So you absolutely can, yeah!

Yeah. They are trilogies, but in a pretty loose sense of the word. One would probably be fine to play them out of order
