Hey all, scott here.
like the title says, are there any Hacks that you've played that are better than the original expirience? whether through adding some quality of life features or rebalancing gameplay ect. ect.

Thank you :>>

A bunch, but I mostly play jRPGs... These are the ones I recommend that are more improvement-oriented rather than complete hacks:
  1. A Link to the Past Redux
  2. Arcana SOR
  3. Breath of Fire Definitive Edition
  4. Breath of Fire II Maeson
  5. Chrono Trigger+
  6. Clock Tower Deluxe
  7. Final Fantasy 4 - Ultima Edition
  8. Final Fantasy 5 - Pixel Freemaster
  9. Fire Emblem 5 - Lil' Manster
  10. Lufia 1 Restored
  11. Lufia 2 Frue
  12. Secret of Mana - Reborn (Also heard good things about Plus)
  13. Final Fantasy Tactics - The Lion War of the Lions (ps1)

Fire Emblem 8 Hacks, especially Andaron Saga, Last Promise, Road to Ruin, Vision Quest, but also many others, for the following reasons: custom maps, custom portraits, custom animations, new more complex and fascinating storylines, possibility of accelerating animations of battle and much more. Where to find them? Obviously on FEUniverse. I really shouldn't advertise their site, since they absurdly banned me just for mentioning Andaron Saga, as absurd as that sounds. Why? Because apparently the author is guilty of a moral fault, which also falls on his hack. I'll talk more about this elsewhere... ?‍♂️

I’ve a good hack for you, Maya Fey.

Dragon Ball Budokai AF might be my preferred way of playing budokai 3 now. I like the B3 soundtrack, but it can be hard to recommend considering it’s plagiarized. And I’m also not against licensed music so I’ve loved basically all the new tracks in budokai AF. I do believe they add atmosphere and helped me uncover new bands I never would’ve heard about otherwise.

That's easy. Mega Man X 3 Zero Project. To me, that's how the game should have shipped, and I refuse to play vanilla ever again.

Not only does it implement Zero fully, it also corrects huge gameplay flaws with X's buster (the fully charged shot when using armor slows down the game and has bad hithoxes and timing) and the upwards dash (too slow and delayed to be of any real use).

Plus it adds battery saves (bye bye passwords) and NG plus.

I'm a big fan of MaternalBound Redux, which I've found to be a nice QoL improvement on Earthbound. It has a lot of improvements/changes, I like that it shows the name for more important NPCs on the text boxes and that all enemies were given their own unique sprites. Of course there's a plethora of other changes but I am a simple man who loves Earthbound.

A Link to the past Redux is the first that comes to my mind I really like how that hack uses the illustrations colors for some characters. Another one could be the map hack on SMT 1 for Snes and Clock tower deluxe in which you can finally go faster to the second floor and adds some PSX content

Yeah, it's also worh mentioning that SMT 1 has an essential patch that goes well with he map one, that one that fixes the law path. Gotta wonder what kind of lame testers the translation had to let this slide.

well, it was 2002, but yeah, the old SMT hack is buggy. i still play it for nostalgia reasons, but if you want a better experience, just play the Playstation version translated by TranslatorTom.

in terms of improvement hacks, Megaman Starforce DX for the original Megaman Starforce.

If you apply the map patch and the law patch fix the SNES one is quite playable. What I'm referring to specifically is that it is a critical bug that was left there, and it was introduced by the translation. The fact no one caught it probably means no one even bothered to play the law path, so yeah...

Agreed on Starforce DX!

can't say i blame anyone for skipping SMT1 law.

Haha well, still, things should be functional, if possible. Imagine, for example, if Atlus shipped SMT3 with a broken Yosuga route. Regardless of plot, it would still mean getting less than the full experience.

Honestly the uncensored versions are making me enjoy some games more that i have, like Super Castlevania IV uncensored or Demon´s Crest retranslation and restoration, it gives them that little extra that just makes the overall experience even better.

I like those especially when they also undo arbitrary difficulty changes as well.

less SMT 3 is a good thi-

personal bias aside, you're right.

The Castlevania Adventure on color with speed hack and whip hack.
Could have been a pretty decent game if if it weren't for how slow it is to walk and the whip penalty.

Once you get to experience a properly colorized game you begin to ask yourself how it's even possible to play any other way.
