Recently I've been getting in to playing a lot of roguelikes again. I'm currently playing: hades 2, BlazBlue entropy effect, and soon because of the steam sale warm snow.
Let's get a thread going where we discuss all the different roguelikes!
Rogue itself is pretty great. If you need visuals, something like Sword of Fargoal or maybe even Fatal Labyrinth on the Genesis covers that.
But for the more modern stuff, I guess my two go-tos are Dead Cells and Rogue Legacy, though I'd take Dead Cells if forced to make a choice. It's just so fun to roll around and find the ideal loadout.
"Everspace" (on Switch): you guide a ship across the galaxy, fightining enemies and being a thief (if you want to risk for money and fuel), and looking for sidequests. There are six or seven areas, all divided in more regions, and you can choose in which region you go (the games tells you how much dangerous it is). At the end of every run you keep your credits for the updgrades of your ship. Despite thinking I would have never, I have beat the last boos and also the mini postgame (but not the mystery of the ancient aliens).

Also "Darkest Dungeon 2", which I've played for a bit despite not being into horror genre (and I would like to play the first title too): at the end of every run you keep your candles to upgrade your characters, the items you get at the beginning and various things I can't remember. Only downside, you always have to play a first section that is boring. Also, you can change and experiment with your party at every run OR you can read a guide about the best characs and skills (which I did lol).
I know the subgenre has been played out to the point of parody by now, but I'm still very much a fan of (good) roguelike deckbuilders.
Slay the Spire remains king of course (how the hell did they nail the formula that hard?), same for Balatro, but while there is a massive flood of mediocre and iffy alternatives out there, here's a couple I really enjoyed that are distinct enough to be worth a shot:
Cross Blitz - still in early access, but already very polished. Think of this one kinda as a Hearthstone roguelike. Or at least that's the closest analogue I can think of.
Cobalt Core - in this one you control a spaceship (which defines your deck, method of attack and where on the screen those attacks happen) and have to take your positioning into account to avoid enemy attacks each turn as you play your cards. Very good, but not a huge amount of content tbh.
Star Vaders - this one is essentially a mix of a deckbuilder and a turn-based take on Space Invaders. Very fun and also very customizeable in that each character you can play as functions completely differently from the others and can then also be tweaked beyond that. Even before you get into the actual deckbuilding.
I could go on, but I don't want to monopolize the thread too much, hopefully there's something interesting in there for someone!
Also, I just bought Unyielder - a boss rush FPS roguelike that I thought looked neat, might be worth a look as well. Seems to have some tech issues though if the reviews are any indication.
How is Hades 2 btw? I heard good things, but the first game was such a critical darling that I'm hesitant to take early coverage as gospel. Hype being hype and all.
My favorite, bar none, is Risk of Rain 2. At first, it was one of the games that revived the fun for videogames in me. It's a really good co-op games where there's no animosity between players except if one hoards all of the items. Nowadays, it's a good way of bonding with friends, but after 600 hours I no longer have the need to play it on my own, except to get achievements after a new expansion is released. Speaking of which, a new one is coming soon, and apparently it's not as broken as Seekers of the Storm on release. I'm also fond of the first one and its remake, Returns.
Aside from that, I had fun with Bing in Wonderland but I haven't explored it much, and the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games are still a blast.
I do like me some Nethack, classic experience, no fuzz, and to the point, its my time killing game really.
I play Caves of Qud on occasion, is fun, specially when you manage to get the fun mutations.
For deckbuilders, the only one I have liked is Chrono Ark, is very good, its also ballsy enough to have an overarching story that actually explains your failed runs in universe.
Quasimorph was a great find, even while its still on Early Access, is very solid, would wholeheartedly recommend.
There is also Invisible Inc. Which is more of a roguelite, but, its pretty good, turn-based stealth doesn't get enough love.
I used to play Stone Soup a lot, but just simply fell off of it.
Oh yeah, and CDDA, but I play CBN these days, since the CDDA team keeps making stupid decisions.
I don't generally like this genre, but they're definitely are some exceptions. Is Metal Slug Tactics a roguelike? Because I think that game is awful and feels nothing like a Metal Slug game at all. It doesn't even feel like a finished game, more like a proof of concept demo or something.

I'm not the biggest fan of the genre myself, but I don't think I've played any of the heavy hitters.
I think I've mainly played games that added a separate roguelite mode as a sort of corner cutting measure to extend game length. At least, that's how it feels to me. WWE 2k24 & War Groove 2 as examples.

Why? Besides its groove lol you randomly find fun toys that grant you temporary abilities like flying, jumping and also bad stuff like running like headless chicken so this "surprise element" is fun AF. If 1st game is too old for ya you may play 4th game instead.
I’m also here to ask about blazblue, hoping it’s a good game.
Hades II mayhaps become my breakout game to roguelites, I’m often told it’s more story driven which sounds like more my thing.
