RGT Nostalgia Society #5 - Clock Tower Deluxe

I keep hearing a phone ring but I have no idea how to answer it lmao

Really enjoying the game so far tho. Shockingly playable for a point n click adventure from the era. Great graphics and music
You'll see 2 doors in the foyer with the phone ringing. It's the upper door where it is. It's an office. its locked at the start you need to find the Gold Key to get in there

Yeah I found it in the end. I also managed to get into the West half of the house and find a key item but then my save corrupted so now I've started again -_-

Probably gonna take a bit of time for some Resi 3 as well tbh

alright gonna boot this thing up and give it a go in a bit. I'll get an ending in the SNES version then go from there. I definitely want to get all 9(?) endings so at some point I'll probably have to refer to a guide. Don't know if there's any kind of bonus for getting them all but if not I might do half on SNES and the other half on PS1.

There is no real bonus getting all the endings on the SNES version from what I remember
Never played the PSX version so I don't know about that. And from what I've read there's no real difference between the 2 versions so a half and half split isn't a bad idea. You can let us know if you notice anything

The fan translation has some minor graphical glitches with the text when run on original hardware but its still very playable. Pretty understandable for a patch that came out in 2001, some old patches don't work at all.

also here's a scan of the manual translated into English. Anyone who's trying this game out for the first time should probably give it a look.

I am far from my PC for a few days, but have the og snes game on my anbernic so decided to give it a try. It has great pixel art and ambience, but god it's so slow, everything takes years to happen and they even punish you for running... Myst and Alone in the Dark feel like racing games compared to this.

I only got the lame car ending for now, probably I should try drawing a map to get the other endings as it's pure trial and error and it's easy to get lost, but too lazy for it right now.

Okay, an arm came out of a mirror and choked me to death? Instant kill? I can already tell this game will be lots of fun >_>

took a break from wandering around the mansion to hook up the capture card. gonna take some time to figure out where everything is. This is what I meant by some of the text being glitched. I can still read it all so it doesn't really matter.

Yeah, I had a feeling this was gonna happen lmao
I ended up reading the manual myself after attempting to pull myself up over a shelf to escape Scissorman.

I did link to a Reddit thread with the manual in a few posts back, but I feel like most people missed it :loldog

I'm currently trying to find the idol again. I had it in my first playthrough before I lost all my data, but it's not in the same place thanks to item randomization.

I've made some progress in Resi 3, though I do not remember the opening section as well as I thought I did lmao. Took me ages to get the map and figure out where the police station was.

So if the idol isn't there at the statues in the music room if you look behind the curtain you'll find the scepter which works for the same purpose. You'll just place it in the vase instead of on the iron plate.

Ahh that's interesting. My idol was on a statue out in the hallway of the west wing in my first run. I was scared of checking that curtain again after what happened last time... ::nervous-prinny

Huh, I actually saw the same text glitch (garbled newline or blank characters?) you did last night (my first time booting it up), but just now I didn't see those glitched characters... Same emulator (bsnes core) and everything...

As for not reading manual, I like to go in completely blind for an hour or two, just for that experience. Maybe not the most realistic experience, but back in day with game rentals wasn't it possible the manual wasn't included?

Some of the controls are not super intuitive so for this game particular I'd recommend giving it a look just for a smoother start. In general I usually give the manual a quick look but most of the time it isn't needed.

The en patch was probably originally tested on now outdated emulators so the minor graphical glitches probably come from using more accurate ones/og hardware.

Also minor spoiler on how the game works
A lot of things are randomized like item location and room layouts. I read somewhere that the entire west wing layout is randomized

Does that count as a spoiler?!? Shit, I feel sort of bad now.

Honestly:
The randomization is killing me. Every time I try to head over to the music room, SCissorman shows up before I get a chance to explore the room, and it's one of the locations I need to check for the idol.

How’s the game so far

Pretty damn good for a horror game from the 90s. Personally I've found it pretty damn playable, even if there's a decent amount of obfuscation in the mechanics.

I'm really trying to avoid looking up any sorts of guides or anything if I can help it.

Not really lol but I did consider it just in case someone wanted to go in blind.

I'm pretty stumped at the moment. Found all these items but not sure what to do with most of em.

I managed to get my first official ending, but it's not exactly one of the good ones lmao

I might actually look up some hints or something soon, since I have technically reached an ending. Sort of just happy exploring a bit more first though.

For the better endings there are a few requirements, one of those is breaking a certain wall and looking inside.

So I need a bit of advice:

So I've got a couple of endings now, including the creepy elevator ending and one of the car ones.
On my second playthrough trying to keep more people alive this time, but I've hit the point where you need to find out about Ms.Mary/Your Dad.

This time, Scissorman didn't chase me in the West Wing corridor, so I haven't been able to jump over the gap and reach the secret room like before.

From what I understand, the other way to find out about Ms. Mary is to get drugged by her in the phone room. However, many people seem to suggest that the only way to get S-tier ending is by getting into the secret room. Do I have to contrive a way to get into that room if I want ending S? Or will discovering Ms. Mary's involvement through the drugging method still net me the 'best' ending. ?

In parallel I've also started playing Resi 3 in earnest. Got into the police station and am running around clearing zombies and picking up items. I feel like I'm getting confused between the layout in Resi 2 and the layout in Resi 3, but it also doesn't help that the most recent format that I played wast he Resi 2 remake on Ps4.

I don't know how to spoiler, but you don't need Bobby to be chasing you to get over the gap. If you inspect the gap then the wooden plank next to it Jennifer will put the plank down to span the gap

Yeah I ended up realising this eventually :loldog

Once I got my first proper endings it really hasn't taken long to clear most of the rest.

It was well worth playing through almost totally blind for the first ending. I feel like I've blitzed the game and we're only 5 days into the month.

Gonna take a break and play some more Resi 3 for a while before I get the last two endings.
