RGT Nostalgia Society #4 - Shining in the Darkness

You're telling me I'll eventually have cause to draw maps instead of navigating by memory and landmarks?
I was navigating via memory/landmarks initially, but I quickly got a bit lost. Ended up using some Graph paper to map out where stuff is and I'm having a much easier time of it.

Frankly, if you're not that into mapping you can always look up maps online. Some might argue you won't get the same experience, but personally, people have said that to me about lots of things I've still thoroughly enjoyed, so I'd say go for it if/when you need it.

I'm quickly learning this as well. Haha!
The initial part is quite brutal, it's best to stay close to the exit untill you get around level 3 then you can start to explore properly but always carry an angel wing to escape the dungeon in a pinch and some herbs for emergencies. Once you get the full party things get a lot more manageable. There's gonna be a lot of backtracking so making maps will speed things up in the long run, every floor is 30x30 squares, it looks big but there's plenty of empty spaces between rooms so mapping everything don't take that long and once you are done you can move around a lot faster. Soon enough you're gonna be cleaning the floor with the enemies😂
This is super helpful though, thank you! Even just knowing we're talking 30x30 is a step up. lol

So far I've completed the Cave of Strength and will be moving on to Courage. I had a rough start at the beginning of the game as I almost died to the first few enemies and then got poisoned and lost. My dumbass would have died if it wasn't for a random herb in a chest and I had no idea what an angel feather was. But I am having a lot of fun so far. First dungeon crawler so it's definitely an interesting experience :loldog

Did one incursion to the second floor yesterday, only Pyra returned alive from the encounter with a sentinel😅. Crafted her a cursed Hex Whip, today I'll get my revenge😈

Is it safe to assume that I plainly must overpower the crab and I'm not missing something important?

Yes.
Good luck! ^-^
Shortsword and gauntlet and praying for a crit at level 5 probably isn't enough, especially given my base damage range is 2-3, the crab is faster than me, it hits for 20+, and it presumably has more health than any common enemies in the area.

Yep it's a significant step up in difficulty, I'm not sure whether it is best to get strong weapons early or armour. I went with armouring my characters and just about managed to outlast him while doing chip damage.

Cave of Wisdom, here we come! (I swear that's not a euphemism)

Aight, RNG manipulated and save stated until I opened with a crit after grinding to level 7 with saber and armor in all 3 slots.

Yeah I took him down with the longsword but I had to grind till level 8. Personally I don't mind a bit of a grind, i find it sort of zen.

Feeling out of it today so I've not made almost any progress but will resume again tomorrow ::sailor-embarrassed

I put the game down for a couple days. Im still on Labyrinth 1 and everyone is level 15 lol. I always play at night and in the dark so making a map is hard. I'll try and play during the day this weekend.

Successfully completed the Cave of Courage and now on to Truth. This one's way harder though. I almost wiped to a ghost from a chest and then had to warp out again due to 2/3s of my party becoming paralyzed. Seems like I'll need to grind a bit for exp and money to get past this.

Second day on the second floor without much advancement, but at least now everyone has one piece of crafted Mithril armor and the cursed Hex Whip turned Pyra into quite the powerhouse against big groups of enemies, the penalty from the curse is quite irrelevant when all the enemies are dead on the first turn.
