RGT Nostalgia Society #4 - Shining in the Darkness

You absolute legend Yousef.
No problem! Haha I also found myself with a bit more free time than usual so I went ahead and included a link to all previous threads within the original post. That way all episodes are accessible within one pin! It should also streamline future posts. Helps that it’s monthly!

Awesome stuff Yousef! I'll make sure that I or Demon (whoever ends up making next months thread) includes it from now on, it's a good way to keep an eye on the clubs history.

Do you think you could add some tags to the old threads as well? I've started applying an "rgt nostalgia society" tag from this month, but it would be cool if the others had them as well, that way, people can find all of the threads in a single place too.

Of course! Least I could to after going this far.

Does anyone have any idea what's up with the water puddles on the floor and the strange pool at the back of the 1st dungeon floor?

I have stumbled across both of these things a bunch of times and have 0 ideas what they're for or how to interact with them.

I have absolutely no idea. I tried searching the walls near water but haven't found anything yet.

I will try to use a blaze spell on them this evening. They act as a handy marker, if nothing else.

Not sure about the strange pool. Is the that the thing that looks like a thin white teleporter on the ground? I've also encountered a red wall behind the first kaiserclaw crab, which I'm also going to try hitting with a fire spell. And a statue holding two maces....not a clue what to do with that thing.

I didn't know this was a thing. Sounds fun. I played this for a few hours once or twice in my life. It'll be fun to jump in again with this context added.

Those pools are return points, you get a medallion later on that you can drop in it so you can teleport back there.

I think that you can only interact with some of these things later on in the game. Once you beat the crab, you can go back and speak to the king, and they sort of redirect you.

The pool-thing I was on about is in the far north-west of the 1st floor, I have 0 idea for it.

Ahh that makes a lot more sense. I should probably start marking them on my map at some point so I can figure out where they all are. I've been doing this with those wall torches as well, but so far I've not found them to actually signify anything beyond helping as a landmark.

Currently, I'm farming a bit more gold since my party members started with terrible equipment. God bless whoever said about keeping the tiara tho, it's prevent my weaker character from going down a whole bunch of times due to its defence output lmao

Let's get it
Oh shit, I didn't realize that you were playing this on Stream! I thought those were just let's plays and I Was gonna check 'em out later lmao!!!

I think we're actually in a similar position ATM. I've just managed to lose like, 30 minutes of grinding though due to a Vita battery failure ::sailor-embarrassed

Haha yeah man, I thought seeing as how I recently set up my YouTube for streaming I may as well livestream my gameplay for the Nostalgia Society games too :P

I think earlier before I started this stream you were a smidge ahead of me. Gatdamn Vita battery giving up the ghost at inconvenient times! ::badpc
I hope you can get back to where you were even quicker. I've been playing super safe and have just been spending all my money on armour xD I'm getting deep into one of the trials now and two of my party members still have the starting knife, RIP

ouch! yeah I got my weapons sorted out before my armour, but then I did die a bunch of times early on and lose a looooot of money to that damn crab so I wouldn't follow my gameplay style

I've mostly got back to where I was, and luckily, my map of the trial is still intact IRL. I've only mapped out the first few rooms, though. Neither of the magic users are livable enough to survive in the trial for longer than a few minutes, so right now I'm getting like 700+ gold to give the Black Mage a staff instead of a knife :L

You and me both! I think I died at least 3 or 4 times to the Kaiser Crab. I just duppied one in 3 turns though, felt pretty good about that. :P

Ayy nicely done. I haven't been keeping a map, I'm solely going off of memory, so I've made A LOT of wrong turns. But it's fun getting lost. I just had my mages guard everything and just prayed my char could tank the damage. I've just about scraped through. MILO is now a decent damage dealer, even though he and PYRA are STILL using the bronze knife haha. I'm now back down to 0 P after buying myself some helmets. Time to finish off the cave of strength! ::fire

Upon exiting the cave of strength, the map layout was confusing af! XD

Still, I feel like I made some solid progress tonight. Already excited to pick it back up again with a fresh pair of eyes.

Wait thats what the seeds are for? I don't even know where I got this thing from.

So far, I've wandered around the dungeon for ages and fought a giant crab that killed me twice.

I did hit level 8 and buy a bunch of improved equipment so...progress? I think?

Still no idea where the Princess or "my two friends" are tho lmao
This has been very much my experience as well. Haha! So weird of this game to come in hot with "YOUR PARTY IS WAITING FOR YOU RIGHT HERE" and then make you look for them.

Absolutely love the vibe of this one, though. Loved the opening with a dude just addressing you. I've never played a Shining, and I like dungeon crawlers, so I'm stoked to give it a whirl!

After six incursions, I finally completed the cave of wisdom, mapping all those trap holes took quite some timeπŸ˜…. Now there's a new merchant to craft mithril equipment😲

Aight, after a couple of save loads, I'm going to start grinding carefully instead of letting death be my escape route. I want to buy better things after all.

It seems you keep some/all of your money upon death, but the price of resurrection gets really expensive really quickly. Good luck

I don't much care for a simple first run to the closest herb chest and back getting ruined by a party of three dark jellies.

The initial part is quite brutal, it's best to stay close to the exit untill you get around level 3 then you can start to explore properly but always carry an angel wing to escape the dungeon in a pinch and some herbs for emergencies. Once you get the full party things get a lot more manageable. There's gonna be a lot of backtracking so making maps will speed things up in the long run, every floor is 30x30 squares, it looks big but there's plenty of empty spaces between rooms so mapping everything don't take that long and once you are done you can move around a lot faster. Soon enough you're gonna be cleaning the floor with the enemiesπŸ˜‚

You're telling me I'll eventually have cause to draw maps instead of navigating by memory and landmarks?
