Welcome to the Nostalgia Society! We are a group who gets together each month and plays through a retro game together. Last month was our most successful month yet, with nearly 25% more posts in the thread. There's no pressure to play through a game, since we just drop in and out of the thread to discuss our findings.

Each game is decided via poll, winner chosen by majority rule. This month's game is Einhander! Really looking forward to this one, since the past few months have been super committal and time consuming RPGs.

Einhander is a "shoot-em-up" developed and published by Square for the PlayStation. It was released in Japan on November 20, 1997 and in North America on May 5, 1998. The super cool thing about Einhander is that the mech you play as changes forms and thus the game changes perspectives along with it. You'll go from scrolling left to right to vertical scrolling like a 'standard' shmup. Some great boss fights and themes, and super creative levels.

Have fun everyone!

Ooh I'm down for this one, I need to complete this game for my retrospective series. Will start as soon as finish Live A Live.

This is cool, I've been meaning to spend time on Einhander. I'ma play through this one with y'all :)
I never really played this in my past life, lost 6 lives and not even to the boss. Trying to upgrade weapons, running into the cars transporting the weapon upgrades. I played Strider Hyruu 2 and found this game to look similar. Gonna get back in there and blow everyone away. Already can say I don't want the cannon upgrade and it's slow rate of fire.

This game is tougher than I thought it would be. Some of the later stages get wild. Definitely one I want to 1cc, though.

Also that music is bangin'. The way it thematically builds and has this dark, rhythmically hypnotic vibe reminds me a lot of Biohazard Battle on Genesis.

Not to make a hundred posts (my last one till I get a few levels in), died just figuring out what button does what. Trying to fire my secondary weapon (a spreader) just having the weapon point behind and forward, couldn't even get it to shoot, I'm dumb lol. Plus the first level switches perspectives and I'm almost for sure you have to blow away neon-lit signs hanging off the side of the buildings, it's scrolling at a good speed. (Japanese version, difficulty Normal).

Not sure what the different selections do, but says easy to pilot, so I guess I go with this one...

I'll be getting the install done today.
Sounds like it might be a quicker one than last month, lmao.
