It's almost July, and with the sweltering Sun battering our backs, it's a good time to stay inside and play some retro games with your pals here at RGT.

If you don't know, the RGT Nostalgia Society is a monthly, play-together group where we all nominate a game, run a poll to pick one, then download and play the game together for a social gaming experience that makes Farmville look like...well, farmville.

As usualy, there is literally only one rule (SERIOUSLY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, IF YOU WANT YOUR GAME IN THE POLL, PAY ATTENTION!!!) :

  • All Nominations must be from The Repo and contain a link to the downloadable file (or they won't count as a nomination)

Get nominating folx!!!!

While I could be characteristic and keep voting Lost Kingdoms until the crickets go home, I'm actually going to listen to my mind for once and go for Okami.

I love this game so, so, so, so, so (x500 times) much.
It kickstarted my adherent love and respect for folklore, my curiosity of Japan, and the absolute artistry of video games. If we end up playing it for the Nostalgia Society this will finally be the run in my 20 or so full clears of it, where I go hunt down all those damn Stray Beads ::booshy

I'm nominating one of the most unfair, fever dream games I've ever played.

Specifically, the Genesis version.
Suffer, as I have suffered.

The Beast calls out to us...

In a low rumble it says "Try and beat my game, if you dare!"
Going through that game's screenshots, it has insanely cool visuals for a Genesis game

If looks could kill ... well, Shadow of the Beast for the Genesis will do that and teabag our graves

It's legit one of the best looking game I've ever played...the enemy designs and locations have stuck with me ever since I first played it as a kid.

Roger Dean's art and landscapes are so iconic to me.

It's been ages since I played Okami so I would 1000% be down for this one.

SHadow of the Beast is awesome...at least, visually it's awesome. (you're a sadist for choosing the most broken version of teh game tho ::eggmanlaugh )
I hope I can participate this month ( I couldn't finish minish cap)

I also haven't ever got beyond the first level of this one, so that could be a gap to plug in my experience.

For once, I am going to nominate something!! This time:

This is actually a FromSoftware game of the PS2-era (Not that the front cover makes that clear at all). It's a first-person dungeon crawler that never got that great of a reviews but I personally have a lot of love for.

I am honestly only nominating this because I just bought another physical copy after losing my last one.

Shinobi (2002) would be a good one I think (because it typically takes people a month to finish it anyways)

A super intriguing action game where you have to hit every enemy within a certain time limit to get a Tate, a stylish ultrakill where all the enemies you hit die in a big cloud of blood at the same time. It's renowned for its difficulty, flashy action, and legendary music. It's one of my favorites on the console.

What do you think of Okami HD on steam? Is it faithful to the original?

This is hands-down one of the best games you could play during summer, especially with friends. The gameplay, the songs, and the atmosphere fit perfectly with summer vibes. Listening to punk rock and emo alternative songs from the early 2000s while going ~200mph on a highway—all while the sun rays of the game engine hit you—is unmatched.

Also, I want to see people either recommending Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast/Flycast OR Dead Or Alive 2: Hardcore for the ps2/pcx2. Both have sexy babes fighting one another ^^

It's summer time and a great point to rest and take it easy.

I have never gotten around to playing that game seriously. I have the N64 version but never finished the first dungeon.

Sengoku Blade
(It's on both of these collections in the repo)

It's high time we got some more SHMUPs going for these.

I'd say it's pretty faithful, tho I'm basing that on the Okami HD release on consoles. AFAIK they're pretty much identical ports across all platforms for the HD version at least.

The only thing missing in the HD release is these little minigames that they used to play out over Loading screens for the PS2 version. They used to give you extra items but obvs on the HD versions the loading screens aren't really long enough for them to make any sense.
