Retro Handhelds General Thread

can anyone give me link where to order screen part for retroid pocket 5 just for backups

So just around 3 months ago, I've got a new retro handheld called the R36s. I'm thinking of getting more retro handhelds like the rg cube or the retroid pocket 2s or even the retroid pocket 4 for like gamecube and n64 emulation.

Kinda not into it for the design, I like Trimui Brick more in terms of design but we'll see what SoC and screen type it'll have.

Finally a (somewhat) dual screen emulation device that is affordable, its like a mini 2DS ::lol
I'm excited for the release of this one.

Love how retroid gave us a retro gbc style into it, especially with MagicX Zero 40 reminding me of the 2ds.

I bought a Miyoo Mini+ last year and I really enjoyed it, but it was a little too small for my hands, so I ended up replacing it with an RG40XXV, which has a similar form factor but has a bigger screen and is more comfortable to hold.

Recently, I sold my n3DS and Vita to switch over to the Retroid Pocket 5, as I wanted to consolidate these devices into an all-in-one workhorse handheld. It seems like the RP5 has enough power to do the job, albeit with some minor concessions in Vita performance.

Ive been trying to look into getting one myself though ive been going back and forth on wiether to get a retro handheld or just buy a steam deck and call it a day

based dejiko enjoyer. Honestly that sounds like a p decent idea, though i dont think the miyoo mini is for me, my hands cramp up bad just playing on my dsi?
dejiko is life, nyo! but ya, i have small hands so idk if it would effect u bu i think probably not!

So i ordered two anbernic devices and they come with a usb cable but no charging block. and apparently they need a 5v 1.5a block to charge so i ordered a couple of those and they still wont charge! Are both these devices dead on arrival or wtf am i missing?
just realized a month later they were charging the whole time, they just wouldn't turn on without an sd card in slot 1. i take back all the bad things i said about Anbernic

I also recently got a Miyoo Mini Plus and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made.

I really like playing GBA and PS1 games on it. I discovered many gems.
What surprised me the most, even though it has a small 3.5" screen, it's really relaxing, even to my sensitive eyes. With the blue light filter active and lowered contrast, I can play it even in pitch darkness with no issues.

One downside is that it's a little small for my big hands. I am considering getting the Anbernic RG35XXSP as it has a greater surface area for the hands to grip on.

I was doubtful but so far have not regretted my rg35xxsp purchase either. I wouldn't say the build quality is perfect but it certainly is a lot better than what I would have expected from a relatively cheap device like this. I still like to play home console titles on a tv but this thing is pretty awesome for retro handhelds.

A new version of MuOS just released btw for anyone here using it.

Rocking the RG405V. Neat device, however I wish I waited months later for the RG406 to come out.
As soon as you buy one they come out with a slightly improved version for similar price.

I was wondering how "allowed" and if it's worth me posting easier files and a guide to modding persona 3 portable psp for actual hardware and also emulation ( psp, psvita, PPSSPP). Without aemulus ( a mod manager, however only one story side can be used at a time) or with. Iv also generated the aemulus files but u need a modded iso which is the big issue. The repo has a lot of them but I know my inclusion would be illegal also. These files are for the male protagonist cutscenes and female cutscenes ( made by an amazingly talented group of people. Persona fans are incredibly dedicated) along with a camera mod to remove the camera facing from above. Basically making it as close to the original PS2 game as possible. It's taken a week of trial and error to get the game to run without aemulus as I know some don't have a pc. It's also entirely possible and Iv yet to check that a unmoded ISO could work with my files being tweaked. This has all been done on vita. Any emulation was on my iPhone 15 pro.

I mainly don't want other persona fans missing out on the cutscenes being added back or the female ones for kotone which have been lovingly created by fans. To create the modded ISO is a lot easier than people using aemulus. It just requires UMDgen which is a little less time consuming. So I could post the files without that and just a guide how to produce an iso.

This game means a lot to me so the time and effort to do so is all completely worth it for me. Just knowing it's being enjoyed.

Been enjoying the R39S handheld alot. I end up playing games alot more games on it then I do on my PC, eventhough playing the same games on my PC would be technically superior (better controller, better screen, more accurate emulation, etc).
Thats probably because I associate my PC too much with working, webbrowsing and watching youtube videos, so its harder to start up a game and keep playing it as long.

I only play 2D games on it, and its almost perfect for any 2D game. Runs SNES, GBA, DS, and even some 2D games on PS1/N64/DC fine.
It can run quite a few 3D games on N64 and PS1 if you crank up the powerusage, but the emulation is buggy and it drains the battery fast so I just don't consider it atall. I see it as a 2D games only handheld for me personally. It has good battery life if you force it into powersaving mode.

The sharp-bilinear filter fixes any problems with the screen aspect ratio and resolution, or need for integer scaling. Which it had better batterylife during sleep mode, or booted up faster. Also appreciate Retroarch more now that ive used it on a handheld.

The only thing I actively dislike about it, is how loud the shoulder and start/select buttons are, they really make me not wanna click them atall, atleast I can map L/R/Start/Select to X and Y for some systems. Even mapped them to the analog sticks because I hate how loud start/select are THAT much.

I bought a second one to give to my brother, I think he would actually use it alot if he had one, and its only about 30 euro.

im the same way. My pc is just the "best" way to play this massive collection of games ill never play + all the stuff i actually *do* on my PC.

i really only play games on devices that are set up to only play games. psp, mister+projector, ds, rg 350 arcd, or various consoles hooked to a crt.

i wonder if i hooked my pc to projector or CRT if i would play more games on it tho...

I've recently bought a retro handheld from amazon called the rg cube by anbernic and I'm excited to play some good old gamecube games on that thing as it's android handheld. I'm thinking of getting more retro handhelds that are like pocket friendly like the ayaneo pocket aces, and it had the ability to play gamecube, ps2, and switch games on that little guy. I'm thinking of getting it for my birthday cause it plays more gamecube games than what nintendo puts out. I think I got that the rg cube for like 189 bucks plus the shipping and it was already nearly half the price of the switch 2.

I've been eyeing up that one myself. Looks pretty decent.

It is. I've been wanting to get one so that I can play gamecube and 64 games on the go and enjoy my games with it. I've transferred the rom hacks that I've played or downloaded online from my pc to play them on the rgcube. I'm gonna get the 512gb for my rg cube just so that I can play gamecube and ps2 games on the go.

A powkiddy X55 is pretty solid have another SD card coming this week. Its about the size of a switch lite and will play many different systems. This card has 270 PS1 titles on it.

yeah its always a good idea to replace the sd card(s) in those anbernics on arrival. They are notorious for failing, and fast

The blue Kioxia cards are actually legit Toshiba microSDs.
Usually 32GB ones, just for OS and some games.
It is the second card usually along 64-256GB which is unbranded and disposable basically.

I kept two Kioxias and they run great. Not the fastest but like a good ADATA.

I got the RG34XX recently, and I really do like it. I mostly got it because these handhelds are gonna be crazy expensive in the US soon.

But the shoulder buttons are quite nice, much better than the ones on the RG28XX. And out of sheer novelty and nostalgia, I've been only playing the Game Boy family games on it.

I completely forgot about the Classic NES Series of games, and decided to get the SNES ports on it, usually I just play the SNES version over the GBA version.
