Resident Evil

Fave mainline RE game?

It was the good combo of the puzzle/maze aspect of the earlier games, along with the minding of munitions and the excitement of the shock/react factor. Also, great to help the memory, when the save points were few and far between. We are probably getting it too easy now with games.

Loved RE1 (PSX) and beated it with both Jill & Chris. I plan on playing it again one of these days.

Couldn't get into RE2 whatsoever.

Never played RE3.

Liked Survivor (PSX), I firmly believe it is a good game for what it is.

Resident Evil 4 is a masterpiece and one of the greatests games ever made and I will die on that hill. The greatest briefcase organizing simulator too, flawless stuff.
I skipped past RE3 too and eventually came back and played it. It's one of the more exciting games in the series. The first two are still better, imo, but enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Watched this about a week ago; pretty mind boggling behaviour on the part of some involved, but I guess some people get money signs in their eyes 💲💲💲

I didn't like the first one one bit.

I found the second one intriguing.

But I adored Nemesis.

Everything else? Meh. Code Veronica was interesting, 6 had its moments... 7 looked really cool, and I didn't get to play 4.
The first one, you had to be there at the time to enjoy it. Going back to play it these days wouldn't be too impressive. The second one was top drawer, cheesy as hell, but the puzzle to action ratio was perfect at the time. Nemesis, I really enjoyed, but sometimes I'd think, would he ever feck off and just nurse his wounds a bit longer. Code Veronica was a really entertaining story and the gameplay was mostly great. Big huge map, though. You could be backtracking for hours trying to find your next puzzlepiece. 4 is worth a shot, might be old hat these days but if you liked being put under pressure like in Nemesis, you might enjoy it. Not a similar game at all, though.

Both Leon and Chris have ideal body types, Chris is the bulky hunk, while Leon is the Lean steam train.

If you like old games, then the whole series holds up really well. Resi 1 will always be my fave, because the mansion is such a brilliant place to explore, and is packed with surprises.

The openness of later titles lose a bit of the claustrophobia of the original, and that sense of being one of a handful of unlucky mofo's facing the horror, before the virus spreads to the city. On the flip-side though, you get increasingly more grandiose action sequences as the series goes on. So it's a win-win

Did you like the Remake on PS3/ Xbox 360 ?

Where Code Veronica that is my favorite RE the head of Umbrella and the one of the founders of this corp I really like this game so much.
The reason it's not included in this thread is because it's a direct sequel to Resident Evil 2 but at the same time it's considered a kind of spin-off of the saga itself.

Yes it was excellent. A bit of a shock at first, with how big some of the changes to the map and enemy behaviour were from the original, but I soon came to really appreciate the new content and remixed puzzles. Both the original and the remake are top tier.

I actually did really like this one, despite the backtracking. The story was insane and the cheesyness meter was off the scale. The puzzles and action were very good. Definitely one of the better ones.

Original Resident Evil 4, surprised it’s not number 1 on this poll.
In the defense of RE2, at least for me its hard to top the atmosphere of the 1998 pre-rendered graphics and just... the aura it had. No idea about why anyone prefers the remasters :(
Also I've heard the nostalgia argument for this a bunch but I first played any retro games late in my teens so at least here it doesn't apply

Honestly I don't think nostalgia is the reason so many older games are beloved. Plenty of younger generations play these classics and find them enthralling. I am 32 now but when I was in my teens I ran with a guy who would play atari games on his psp. Something can capture some people that other people dismiss.
Tank controls do have a small barrier to entry but after someone can get a grasp on them the games behind them are absolutely still mesmerizing.

I love Code Veronica (probably my second favorite behind the original Resident Evil 4) and I played that on Xbox 360 initially where its graphics would be considered very dated compared to contemporary games.

There is definitely a charm to low poly games with prerendered backgrounds because the limitations often amplified the creator's vision.

On a tangent an example of this is the original Majoras Mask. While I can see how some prefer OoT in the 3DS version (I dont) the 3DS MM sanitizes the dark aesthetic that made the original so captivating.

Resident Evil kind of died to me when 4 came out. I have no idea why but as soon as the tank controls were removed, I lost interest with it. Code Veronica was my last true stop with resident evil unless you count deadly silence on the ds which was quite fun with the first-person knife wielding.

The first two get plenty of love in my house on Halloween but if I was hard pressed, I would choose RE2 out of all of them that I have played.
You know I'm sort of like that, I have 2, 3 and 4 remakes along with 5, 6, 7, 8 and revelations 1/2 but I just long for tank controls and fixed cameras. I remember when they changed it I weren't happy at all.
If I had my way they'd have kept it as is.

I'm between 2 and 3 as my favorite, though I think 2 has the edge since Leon is my favorite protagonist. I love 1-4 to bits, though. CV's okay, I thought it was an exercise in frustration but the plot was so wild that I just kept playing. Hated 5 and only finished it because, well, Wesker, and didn't play anything past that.

I'm going through the remakes for the very first time (I'm late to the party, I know) starting with 1R, and man, it's really different from the original. It's brilliant so far.

I am excited to finally try this. Mediafire doesn't cap downloads but I have to download each file individually. I am on the last one.
