This isn't gonna be too terribly long, I just had a moment yesterday while playing and I think it's good to laugh at yourself when you make a whoops.

Last night I had coerced myself into playing Outbreak File 2 (I've never played File 1 I just love File 2's cover art) and I had blown through the tutorial easy peasy.

But then I got to that fucking zoo.

Having only experienced RE 4, RE 6, RE 2 remastered, RE 4 remastered and Code Veronica, I was under the assumption I could... ya know... KILL THE ELEPHANT! I wasted a lot of my ammo on that stupid pachyderm and finally had enough and just legged it to the office. Well, imagine my surprise when the elephant busts down the wall Kool-Aid Man style, AND GRABS AND MURDERS MY PARTNER.

Now mind you, I was still trying to solve the mystery of the raccoon trophy puzzle, so I had bigger fish to fry. I was not enthused that, after over an hour and still not actually having properly fought the elephant, this entire stage/level is basically just a fetch quest for racoon coins. I lost it.

The sad thing is, I actually really like the games aesthetics and the gun play is - in my opinion - among some of the best in the series. I mean, for the love of Pete I would walk the route with the most doors possible just because I liked the animation!

Anyways, here's a meme about it since I have no way of properly overcoming the anger I have with this game:

You didn't mention if you were playing Solo or Multiplayer. Outbreak really was intended as an online thing, and even then, it's still not going to be a walk in the park. There's something to be said about its... Kinda assy level design, let's be fair, no one enjoys that amount of backtracking, but the game does shines when you're trying to coordinate under panic (and the constant time limit of your virus level).

It's a bit of a hassle to get the online running nowadays, and I'm pretty sure you need to use emulation, but it's possible thanks to the fans and I'd say it's worth the effort. Being able to leverage different characters' abilities and doing the "let's split up!" thing with your friends is just a sorta fun you don't get out of the other RE games.

My bad! Yeah I was playing single player, that makes a ton of sense though that it's mostly meant for online play. I'm not too sure where to start with getting it online, but I'll do some digging.

No worries. I bought the game at a resale shop a full decade ago and I fully knew about the online stuff. It's still interesting to go through, just... harder and more empty.

I think everything you'll need to get started is here! It's been a little while, though.

I want to try those games, I'm huge resident evil fan. I am currently trying to play code veronica on my dreamcast.

The Zoo was brutal for your first play session. File 2 assumes you have familiarity with the first game. Which actually gave you a tutorial level to run through.

There's a fan server keeping it alive. You have to register and do some light hacking to your device to set it up. https://obsrv.org

It is a crime this game is not on steam with multiplayer...

I agree! Especially with Capcom's cash-grab that is the RE remasters. If they remastered it for modern hardware and used Steam/dedicated servers for multiplayer, it'd have a ton of potential!
