Just a message to vent here. I nearly went insane with the settings of this game. Hell, I already did with past RE Engine games for other bullsh*t reasons (mainly brightness and aliasing), but at least my current hardware runs those without trouble (1080p, 60fps, no ray tracing).

But RE4 gave me headaches with FPS drops and stuttering. I spent a whole day tinkering with the settings, adding DLSS with mods, using frame generation on Lossless Scaling—no results. And finally, I just reinstalled AMD Software Adrenalin instead of Pro, and everything works! There’s still some stuttering once in a while, but at least there's no dip below 50fps in the village sections.

So if you're in the same situation as me, uninstalling AMD Software Pro and replacing it with AMD Software Adrenalin might fix your issue!

I hope the remaster of the original will run good. I bought it years ago and never played!
From what I gather, CAPCOM isn't too good on PC. If you own a console, prefer that version.

PrimeiroFirst of all, that Joker profile picture is really good, and secondly, I have several lightweight zombie games you can play on emulators if you want, and nice to meet you, my name is lod.

Yeah, I’ve played all the RE games up to this one. I played the RE Engine games until Village on a PS4 Pro and was amazed at how well they ran (even Village on performance). I also played the 2005 original and had fun, although it’s not my favorite. I like how they added the crafting system and the non-linear exploration from Village into the new one.

Overall (optimization issues aside), it’s a great game, but I’m not sure it was necessary to remake this one compared to other titles like Code Veronica.

If you're referring to the Ultimate HD Edition on Steam, it tends to be very finicky on certain hardware configurations and how well it cooperates. Around the time I got the Ultimate Edition Edition when I got my own computer (that is sadly obsolete compared to what's the current standard now), it ran fine at 60 FPS. Later Windows updates and parts had to be replaced when they either broke down or found a better replacement, the game sometimes plays at an extremely bogged down framerate, as if it was in a perpetual state of slow motion for no good reason unless I go back to the original default 30 FPS cap, and other times it runs fine like nothing happened. Changing other graphics setting didn't help either to fix this issue; regardless of anti-aliasing quality I used, texture and shadow quality setting, post-processing filters enabled or not, and turning off built-in V-sync function (which actually does not work at all in the INI file, for whatever reason) did not solve the issue unless I go back to playing at 30 FPS if the game refused to play in a stable framerate past 30 FPS for God knows why.

Now there are some possible solutions to this problem if you're looking to play Ultimate Edition HD at 60 FPS that have been outlined on PC Gaming Wiki, but from personal experience (especially on this obsolete computer), I cannot promise that it will fix them entirely since the problem cropped back up even today. Some other players with computers better than mine also reported similar problems, so that says to me that QLOC did a half-assed job optimizing and porting the game over from the Xbox 360 version (which itself was ported from Wii edition that was also ported from the GameCube version with the PlayStation 2 version's extra content added with a few other tweaks like making the P.R.L. 412 OP as all hell compared to the PlayStation 2 port). For anyone looking to play Ultimate Edition Edition on PC, I would highly recommend installing re4_tweaks (which is included with HD Project), it fixes other various issues with the Steam version like the missing blur and DoF effects from the GameCube version, fixes some high framerate bugs, disables a visual filter that was introduced since the 7th generation ports that was supposed to add a glow effect to fire source but ended up making the game more brown instead, cleans up the visuals so it looks sharper, and other quality-of-life features. Alternatively, emulating the GameCube version or the Wii edition might be a viable option if your computer is powerful enough for that and some fans have ported over the textures from HD Project and made texture packs for Dolphin if you wish to enhance the graphics as well.
