Regarding the recent incident involving myself and some other users, specifically, a user with a highly racist name. I believe the board should implement an alert system. If someone wants to follow you, you should have the ability to approve or deny it. As currently, they can auto-follow you without your consent.

This feature could effectively prevent incidents like this. If the platform diden't let to use the old phrase "Every Tom, Dick, and Harry" meaning anyone can't just automatically friend or follow you, it would deter these individuals who think it's funny to create rude or racist slur names, and who then like your posts.
Of course, none of us would have followed or allowed the user I am talking about to follow us, but they managed to follow and like some old posts, which I do not want to delete. Unfortunately, due to this, myself, Zerpina and others are now tagged with the offensive name.

We need to implement measures to stop this behavior immediately and prevent it from happening again..

It shouldn't be level locked.

It won't let lurkers follow people, I know for a fact there are a few who follow me for my articles.

But following is useless on that regard — it doesn't notify them when you post a new one.

I actually fail to see the point of the feature... unless it's meant to be used as an indirect "friends list" they couldn't name that way for whatever reason.

Or tie the option to a level like access to Chatter.

You already can't even DM when you are just starting out.
I was about to suggest the same... however, after researching about it, unfortunately Xenforo doesn't support this either... and i couldn't find any addon for it either.

Maybe add the option to remove followers? Or maybe, add a limitation on newer users so they can't follow people right away?

If the request thing can't be done.
Actually, that's not a bad idea. We have a limit on how soon you can post in the forum games...
why not on user posts? 24-48 hour minimum.

Well, unfortunately that's not supported either by Xenforo... nor any addon for it that i'm aware of! ::cirnoshrug

Xenforo the peak! 🌟

Too bad we only have the ignore option not the block one.

can't you guys simply filter slurs from being used as aliases at the level of registering in the site? like, putting certain usernames and its variants in a filtering list?

some parameters could be used to help with this: denying names with numbers + all caps combined... not sure if reasonable, tho

Fortunately, from what i remember and what Kamako mentioned, it's not something that happens too often... so i think it's still too soon for trying to implement a system for it.
I believe such cases can be handled manually... but it might not be done immediately due to... (Surprise!) Xenforo's limitations! 🌟

I didn't see the username in question but wouldn't a name filter be easier? Also as far as I know about xenforo, mods should be able to change usernames and block users from changing usernames after.
just got to see it was previously suggested, so disconsider my post

I have used XenForo before and, while it does allow you to blacklist certain words from being used and customize said list (it immediately sidelines any post containing them until further review), I don't recall ever seeing that option for usernames — I guess the XenForo devs wanted to give humanity SOME credit.

Actually this feature exists in Xenforo... however, it's well-hidden so no one finds such an evil feature! ::eggmanlaugh

we need the misanthropes as much as we need the believers
I have a rather... pragmatic approach to the whole thing.

I love watching AI Hitler jamming to Abba, but I'd absolutely hate seeing actual Hitler as someone's avatar and username.

That sort of thing.

Just to update: The banned User has had their name changed, so it should no longer display on any posts they reacted to.

Further, thanks to a very helpful someone, we are looking at the possibility of heading off any future cases of new Users with offensive names by updating our auto-catch screener. Will update further in due course.

I was making fun of your previous comment, xenforo devs are the "believers" in that context, given the information you provided

But seems like we got a fact-check hehe
