Regarding the recent incident involving myself and some other users, specifically, a user with a highly racist name. I believe the board should implement an alert system. If someone wants to follow you, you should have the ability to approve or deny it. As currently, they can auto-follow you without your consent.

This feature could effectively prevent incidents like this. If the platform diden't let to use the old phrase "Every Tom, Dick, and Harry" meaning anyone can't just automatically friend or follow you, it would deter these individuals who think it's funny to create rude or racist slur names, and who then like your posts.
Of course, none of us would have followed or allowed the user I am talking about to follow us, but they managed to follow and like some old posts, which I do not want to delete. Unfortunately, due to this, myself, Zerpina and others are now tagged with the offensive name.

We need to implement measures to stop this behavior immediately and prevent it from happening again..

I agree with this in principle. If this gets significant support I'll do some research on available free XenForo mods and look to raise with Admin.

In the meantime, remember that you can set your privacy settings to restrict anyone from seeing your news feed, though I do realise this is perhaps an exaggerated response.

I have it set to 'Members Only,' but that doesn't do much when new members like that pop up. I also don't want it to be set to 'People I Follow Only.

Unfortunately i'm not aware of any addon that can provide this feature, and my quick search wasn't fruitful either.
If anyone is aware of an addon that can do that, it might be helpful to share the link.

Donations are more than welcome - They're the reason this place can keep ticking over after all. I just want to be clear that, as far as I understand, there is no intention to pay for any site modifications, whether they be one-off or rolling subscriptions. I'm sure Spike wants to keep overheads as low as possible.

Fair point, and no, I don't want more overhead for Spike. God knows the man has enough as it stands.

I haven't found one either (yet, anyway).

The closest I found was a free mod that removes follow requests and the news feed from the Forums altogether, but again, this is an extreme solution, and isn't something that can be toggled on and off on a per User basis, as was suggested separately by Facsimile and Lady Aldia.

As shown here, names like that should automatically be banned upon creation....

But I digress. If our AI overlords' idea can't work, what about an unfollow option?
You could click the name, like you do with "ignore" and unfollow them without them receiving a notification. Additionally, if possible, if you ignore someone, they should automatically ignore you and the offending party, like the person whose name I censored here, cannot undo it.

I mean honestly, I don't want to see this racist BS here. I see enough of it in real life.

We're looking into getting the banned User's name changed, but this may take some time (for reference it's 1am where I am) so will most likely look to be actioned tomorrow.

I didn't see the username in question but wouldn't a name filter be easier? Also as far as I know about xenforo, mods should be able to change usernames and block users from changing usernames after.

Maybe add the option to remove followers? Or maybe, add a limitation on newer users so they can't follow people right away?
