All this recent talk about Star Fox made me think about, well, Star Fox. Or, more specifically, those comics that Benimaru Itoh drew for Nintendo Power. They were rather pulpy and had some wacky stuff in them, such as Falco being a greedy ass who tries to usurp Fox's place as the leader, and Andross hating Corneria because the Cornerian Army blew up his pig android (pigdroid?) foster parents for some reason. But they had that sweet, sweet Benimaru Itoh art, so who cares, really. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Panel of Andross saying, 'Forgive me, Vixy. I was young, in love, and had a spare bomb!'

Plus, they could be funny out of context sometimes.

So, has anyone else read them?

I've discovered this because of Papetoon in Star Fox EX: Exploration Showcase.

Also Fox developing an Oedipus complex for Fara since she resembled his dead mother. he even had her wear his mothers old dress.

I know Fara from this comic was originally gonna be a playable character in Star Fox 2, as she's in the earliest known prototype builds of the game (Though she's known only as "Lady" in the games files), before ultimately getting cut along with a tonne of other characters they came up with for the game.

That's... Weird.

Okay at least the comic isn't canon but still.

(Although technically this doesn't really constitute as and Oedipus complex as he had no resentment nor jealousy towards his father James McCloud which is an important factor for it). I'd also say that said complex can be questioned as psychoanalysis isn't as credible as psychiatry or psychology.

Speaking of which I've found a small 4koma comic showcasing Fox' mother.

I don't think we needed a female counterpart to fox (nor a romantic interest for the matter). Yeah we got Krystal but she was more or less collateral from Dinosaur Planet becoming Starfox Adventure but I've always thought that a romance sub-plot had no place in a war-themed series like this one.

So you're saying Love can't actually bloom on the battlefield?

Jokes aside, i really like the scrapped designs. would love to see them be used in future games

I get thinking it's a bit silly to go deep into "lore" and character dynamics in an arcade game style series like Star Fox, but at the same time; given that the series as a whole was partially inspired by Miyamoto's love of Gerry Anderson's puppet shows, specifically Thunderbirds, it kind of does make sense since those series always had a lot of dramatic elements to them (Including romance), despite being shows made for kids. Now whether it would've been good or well written is obviously subjective, but I can see where that vision was coming from lol.

Perhaps the team could even feature reptiles and even a primate that had defected Andross' army or since it'd be the post-war they could have one like how they got a Klingon in Star Trek the Next Generation.

I just don't want to have the same syndrome as the Sonic series by having too many side characters being introduced.

Thunderbirds worked because it was a show with episodes, a video game doesn't have the same luxury and I'll be honest Fox McCloud is the kind of serious in business guy, romance is background and happens only outside of battles... It'd be like focusing on Mario and Peach's relationship in a Mario Bros game (Zelda had some form of it in Skyward Sword but this was before the main events of the story).

Oh, I didn't know these existed. I must read them.
