Exactly the same experience here. I went with a friend to the midnight launch and watched them play the opening, thought it was pretty good. Left it. Didn't think about it for years and years, aside from the odd occasion where we'd list the best games ever, and they would add it into the conversation. That's surprising to hear.
I didn't think it was all that well received when it first released, and then I heard very little about it in the time since.
Rockstar might make the most offensive and irreverent games you'd ever encounter, but BY GOD are they made with love, care and skill. Finally played through it in full last year, and yep, like gastd says, it deserves it. Easily one of the best games ever made. You could tell me it came out yesterday and I'd still be impressed. The fact it is 8 years old and virtually unsurpassed graphically is just insane.
My biggest Fish to fry was that it was clearly stated at Release that the Multiplayer online is going to be Free and then came Sony and said you know what fuck you pay Ps+ together with your 80€ Game. That's surprising to hear.

Yes, it is a video game indeed."game"
RDR2 might not deserve equal shit talking as Mixtape gets but god damn was it fucking awfully boring from a gameplay perspective for me.Yes, it is a video game indeed.
I also tend to criticise Rockstar's game design based on missions you cannot delve too far from the objective so that you would fail them but it's still a game as there's a game over state and game design elements beyond its cutscenes.RDR2 might not deserve equal shit talking as Mixtape gets but god damn was it fucking awfully boring from a gameplay perspective for me.
I wasn't as fan because to me MGS is about being stealthy in closed hallways or separated areas. When it comes to open world games with a mission structure, MGS V has spoiled me too much. That should be the gold standard for mission structure in open world games. So many ways to go about it, unlike the extremely railroaded RDR2 ones.
Yeah I get that, MGS2 is my favorite one in the series so relate to this. However I just feel if a game will already be a sandbox and have missions, I would rather that game offer adequate freedom with the missions.I wasn't as fan because to me MGS is about being stealthy in closed hallways or separated areas.
You mean something like Goldeneye 64/Perfect Dark/TimeSplitter where you could theoretically do missions in any order in a level?Yeah I get that, MGS2 is my favorite one in the series so relate to this. Not everyone is voting at Eurovision (fortunately). So what im hearing is majority of gamer´s have the same boring taste ? "I mean not that my taste in games is any better"
It´s a bit like Eurovision Song Contest where majority of people taste in music is crappy pop and country.
Maybe we should have a Seperate contest for Metal/Punk music. Eurovision Metal contest. Yes we had Lordi on the Eurovision one. But I wanna see Sabaton or Rammstine or Cradel of flith win for once and not what ever trash that wins.
All im trying to say is we are all saying it´s good every one are diffrent yet when it comes to video game taste every one seams to be the same.
Nah not even that, all I'm saying is compare RDR2 mission design to MGS5 mission design like all the different ways you can approach the mission and S-ranking usually requires you to be very clever. Basically I'm just saying if you are designing a sandbox game like RDR2 or whatever, this is how it should work since otherwise I don't get the whole point of it even being sandbox and open-world.You mean something like Goldeneye 64/Perfect Dark/TimeSplitter where you could theoretically do missions in any order in a level?
Well I the isse with country as you said is US culture not Euro and last I checked Eurovision is Europe. So if we gonna do more European culture maybe it should be more folk music ?You mean something like Goldeneye 64/Perfect Dark/TimeSplitter where you could theoretically do missions in any order in a level?

I fail to see the issue about Country music as it's a staple in US culture.
I do wish for more variety of genres (like Italo Disco, techno/electro and Jazz).
As for taste it's a subjective thing but I totally understand Minecraft's place as the #1 selling video game of all time.
Folk is a good idea but then again USA composers can do genres that are typically associated with Europe.Well I the issue with country as you said is US culture not Euro and last I checked Eurovision is Europe. So if we gonna do more European culture maybe it should be more folk music ?
But yeah my biggest issue is I want more genres represented.
Yes I agree with you MInecraft being so big as it´s a game that honestly cater to all play styles and with mods you can even carter to genres.
But GTA 5 and RDR2 being top 2 and 3 will never ever make sense to me ever.
But well that´s the point im not meant to understand the love for does games because they are not for me.
Yeah I wont argue on that for sure.Folk is a good idea but then again USA composers can do genres that are typically associated with Europe.
Minecraft has the luck to be polyvalent and as moddable as Doom.
As much as I don't care that much about R* (outside of the sandbox aspect) I see why RDR is seen as a great game (that may have saved the western genre in videogame). They're basically blockbuster games.
