Well, I'm looking for PS1 and PS2 games to play at family or friends' parties. So far, I've only thought about fighting games, where it's possible to do the famous "whoever loses passes the control to the next person" game.

Then you may want to consider FlatOut 2 (not Fallout 2): https://retrogametalk.com/repository/ps2-iso/flatout-2-usa/

It's a racing game that has real-time detailed destruction system. What's more is, that why I recommend, is it has so much fun minigames beyond racing and crashing your car into each other. It has minigames that you can launch your driver into the air at high speed and try to, for example, basket your driver into giant basketball hoops. As such there are dart, bowling and whatnot minigames. It's so much fun to just run the game and play these minigames together.

Consider Battle Hunter for PS1

It's a board-game type dungeon exploration video game compatible with Multi-tap and up to 4 players.

The dungeons are randomly generated on a grid, and your characters are all given cards with which to use during different situations.
There are four types of cards, indicated by color, and they are Attack cards, Defense cards, Movement cards and Trap cards, which you can lay for the other players to land on which has a variety of effects.

Battles take place in a 1v1 format where players each 'roll' a number, matching up their stats to determine how much damage is taken per combat turn.

All in all, it is a great party game and has a lot of interesting mechanics to discover.
It's easy to learn and fun for up to 4 players.

For the PS1;
-Bushido Blade 1 or 2, pretty great fighting game series.
-Metal Slug X, 'nuff said.
-Vigilante 8, a fantastic car battling arena game.
-Worms, a classic.

PS2;
-Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series or the Champion's of Norrath games, both are fantastic hack and slash co-op games if that's what you're into.
-Jak X Combat Racing
-SmackDown Vs. RAW: Here Comes the Pain! Probably the best PS2 wrestling game, in my opinion at least.
-Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, an absolute classic multiplayer shooter.
-Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, a 3D beat em up that I definitely lost a weekend with in co-op back in the day.

What do you think of Crash Team Racing for PS1? It's a Mario Kart-type racing game that has the capacity for two players.
I had completely forgotten that this game exists, I really wanted a "mario kart" for ps1, thanks <333

Knowing my family and friends, I think it's hard for them to end up enjoying a board game-style RPG, especially because no one speaks English properly. However, this game is very, very beautiful and charismatic :<

Worms Armageddon (and Hogs of War if you prefer 3D)
Bishi Bashi
NBA Jam
Any sport simulation from EA if you're into that (some of them support up to 8 players iirc)

As far as fighting games go I believe that Dead or Alive 2 supports multitap on PS2. Might stop controllers from being passed around like a joint.

a good party game most people don't know about is Crash Bash.

It's not CTR, it have a good set of minigames that can be played with up to 4 players

I see you are from Brazil, then you can read about the game here:

Digimon Rumble Arena for PSX, at least in my house we have it a shot every chrismas reunion

If you don't mind losing some friends in the way, the PS2 has Dokapon Kingdom, think of it like Monopoly with the chance of beating the shit of the shoe

As mentioned, Metal Slug is a blast, in PSX there are the first two, but the third is in PS2

Crash Nitro Kart is a crazy PSX kart racer where the powerups will ensue you are in your toes every second

Holly Molly!
This is exactly I was looking for!
Thank you so much for sharing.

IDK play PES 2013 or something then lol. As far as I know it has Brazilian Portuguese language and some Brazillian football teams (I played this game so much I remember that much). But the logic is valid for many sports games you can find. I think I'm not mistaken to think every Brazillian loves football right? lol

Timesplitters 2 has some good multiplayer FPS action. Tekken Tag Tournament for fighting game goodness.

Since most people have mentioned the obvious picks, I will go and recommend something a little more left-field and suggest Super Farm on PlayStation 2: A pretty fun Power Stone 2 clone, released as a PAL exclusive for European markets.

came to suggest this

One game I haven't seen suggested here yet is Poy Poy.

Guess the best way to explain it is that its like a sort of precursor to Power Stone. You're in a 3d arena, full of stuff to pick up and yeet at others, obstacles to avoid (or activate to mess up your opposition), and you can choose from a special ability to use from a quite big list (you need to unlock stuff tho, so if you want it all from the start, look up some cheats or full save).

There is also a sequel as well, if you want even more content.

You can't never go wrong with Bishi Bashi Special

you could always lighten the mood with this
