A young man, Hsiao Kang (lit. 'Little Kang', a nickname derived from Lee Kang-sheng's full name), attends a cram school and lives with his parents. In a parallel storyline, Tze and Ping are petty thieves.

After a night out, Tze returns to his flooded apartment. The next morning, he meets Kuei, a young woman who had just had a one-night stand in the neighboring room with Ah Tze's brother, a car salesman. Kuei does not know where she is, and Tze gives her a ride on his motorcycle.

Directed by Tsai Ming-liang, his films have been acclaimed worldwide and have won numerous awards at festivals. In 1994, Tsai won the Golden Lion at the 51st Venice International Film Festival for the film Vive L'Amour.

In the streets of Taipei, four youths face alienation, loneliness, and moments of existential crisis amidst a series of minor crimes. Please let me cut to the chase for this awesome movie ''Rebels of the Neon God 1992'' cause i don't want to spoil it for people that love Cinema.

Also i got to be honest i found out about this film in some random Facebook group with few members about Asian Cinema, yeah facebook has some use in 2025 a lot of real cinema fans still use it. I was captivated by the start, as i saw the daily life of the characters in it i felt that this movie is so based to reality and grounded to what the real world is all about, in the exactly opposite way of the American Industry that big platforms promote.

And now the Juice there was some scenes that i couldn't found now in photos to upload in this Thread sorry, the one is when they illegally enter in the an Arcade shop and start to unscrewing from NEO GEO arcades parts so that they can sell them, the second is when the when they where riding their bikes in the night city and then bang, my brain exploded.

The first thing that popped up inside my mind was ''What is going on here, this movie has the feel of AKIRA in a Taipei 1992 aesthetic background.'' and guess what later i found out again in some random facebook group that the Director of this movie is a huge fan Katsuhiro Otomo. Man it's really a shame that gems like this one don't get the spotlight, one thing for sure now is that i will dig in more in Asian Films after the feelings and emotions i felt.

I don't want to forget the film's Chinese title refers to Nezha, a powerful child god in Chinese classical mythology who was born into a human family. Nezha is impulsive and disobedient. The film won a Golden Horse Award for Best Original Score, a Prize of the City of Torino for Best Film at the Torino International Festival of Young Cinema, and the Bronze Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival. I still can't believe i didn't known about this awesome film, i understood so many things cause i am a Cinema lover since my childhood.
I am gonna lay off from the mass production garbage that Netflix promotes and try to convince my girlfriend to watch more Asian Films in 2025, there are some more stuff i want to write about, but it is possible that you are gonna get spoiled. I've tried to pass you the real vibes of this film without telling you the story and some critical facts as the movie progresses.

Please tell us about Asian movies that you really loved, especially the underrated, the unknown, the underground masterpieces. I am really gonna start watching more. Thanks for reading, until my next thread see you.

This looks like a pretty good movie, thanks for sharing. My favorite movie gotta be the Shaolin Soccer by Stephen Chow

I did some typing mistakes i can't edit now for some reason i don't know sorry, next time i write a thread i will give in more time. My time is limited I thought that this week will be easier but no.

I've watched a movie from this same director called The Hole, also great. simultaneously very funny and very grim, and genuinely strange. it's a sort of love story set in a rotting apartment complex with an unsettling pandemic in the background that hangs over everything in the story. won't say too much but while it was a movie made during and about the turn of the millennium, it feels even more biting today.

I had no idea he was a fan of Katsuhiro Otomo, that rules! thank you for sharing! wasn't expecting this from a video games forum :p

cough cough I wonder who would EEEEEVEEERRRR watch this slow looking movieeeeee? I certainly would never obsess over Tsai Ming-Liang for years to come after watching it as a teen....NEEEEVER

I love Rebels of the Neon God. Goodbye Dragon Inn by the same director is also really good
