This is a fun game that has been popular on various forums I've frequented, and it's always great fun to share music you like with others, and maybe discover something new in the process. :)

The rules are simple:

1. Rate the video game song from the post above yours in a quote with a score from 1 to 10 (since it's the most common grading scale, just remember that one person's 8 might be different from someone elses 8 and so on!) You may write a short review too if you feel like it!

2. In the same post where you rated the previous song, post a link with a video game song of your choosing! Feel free to write something about the game/song if you feel like it, but there's no need to if you don't.

3. To prevent clutter, please only rate the song in the latest post in the thread! It might occasionally happen that two people rate the same song simultaneously without refreshing their threads, and that's fine of course but try and not rate old posts deliberately.

That's it! TL;DR, Rate the latest song posted in the thread from 1-10, then post your own song and have someone rate it! Also, please don't get angry and start a fight if you disagree about a particular song, everyone feels different about music so don't worry about it if someone doesn't love your favorite boss fight theme as much as you!

Have fun!

I'll go first, with a song from one of my top 3 games of all time, Jet Set Radio. ?

I rate it a solid 8/10. I like the pursuing feeling the theme has. Which is perfect in a game like Jet set radio. But I don't understand what's going on here!

Well here's mine "The Despair embodied theme of DMC 2"

Not bad, with a certain restrained power, but a little generic and not really memorable. There's a hint of Castlevania influence. 6.5/10

Halo 2 soundtrack (Mjolnir mix)

It's still iconic for sure, but I just prefer the orchestral version more (from the first game I think?), I'm not really a fan of that screeching electric guitar.

Here's a track from the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC

Not a fan of some parts, which remind me of the opening of TV game shows, but the rest is very catchy with its sax and little flutes. 7/10

Mirror's Edge - The Shard

9/10. Thanks for reminding me how great Mirror's edge soundtrack was. Love how well it compliments the setting of the game.
Born unto trouble from Red Dead Redemption

9.5/10: Almost perfect. Rocking song that is sometimes the music for SCHThack events.
Almost as epic as the 2nd Boss theme from Chrono Trigger.
7.5/10
Mitsuda is my god, and Chrono Trigger has some amazing melodies. I've just never been super into the soundfont that it's using, it gets a little shrill sometimes, but the compositions themselves are cool.

Continuing the Mitsuda appreciation with (probably) my favorite track from Chrono Cross, where I think his talent was able to be showcased so much more:

Hey, this one is pretty good. I'd say a 7.5/10. has a very adventurous feel to it, but I've never played either game (trying to get to it on my current backlog)

Here's one of my favorites. Specifically this remix from Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled I think breathes new life into this track, one of the better levels and songs from Nitro Kart.

(Replying since Yousef was a filthy casual and didn't link a song?)

8/10
Good stuff. It definitely has that weird Crash Bandicoot vibe with the xylophone/marimba going on. There were parts in the middle that almost reminded me of Kingdom Hearts 2 or Birth By Sleep, but I can't put my finger on it. Funny how that works.

I give you the Akuma theme from my favorite Street Fighter game:

I like it! It feels more ominous than high energy to me but I think it fits the stage well, 7/10.

Here's something dark for the thread!

Arcanum is basically a CRPG in a steampunk world that's extremely grim, dark and depressing even by the standards of that settings extremes. It's basically fantasy victorian England in a with all the horrible things associated with the Industrial age and the magic of the old world clashing with it.

Filthy what? I was rating Skeetos’s song, I think I misunderstood the purpose of the thread but there was no need for hostility.

My bad! It's just an old meme saying in gaming circles, meant no ill will of course! I thought it was innocuous enough to post but I understand that some terms aren't as common as they once were. Once again, apologies for that! ?

The game is to reply to a song with a score, then link another song in your post to continue the chain. :)

Very somber, but very nice and haunting at the same time.

Here's Mole Knight's stage theme from Shovel Knight, a game I'd say has a perfect soundtrack:

Yeah sorry. I'm absolutely terrible at deciphering sarcasm in text (so I should probably refrain from using it myself) but really I don't want to offend anyone either, least of all with outdated meme terminology, especially when I'm still new to the site, so I wanted to clarify it too ?

Yeah, good old epic NES style, with a taste of Megaman. 7.5/10

Here, the music from Axelay's 2nd level, back when Konami were at the top of their game. It starts slowly and then becomes epic.

Definitely has that Konami Power of the 90s. Never heard of that game soo it was a very pleasant introduction to listen to this Song. The second part also reminds me of Kirby and The Amazing Mirror space level. Pretty Solid overall 8.5/10

I will post one of my favorite tracks of Castlevania III that doesn't get the love that other CV3 songs get. idk why but is always on my head when i think of Castlevania III

Fantastic, like every song from that game. I prefer the NES sound over the Famicom sound but it's a great song nontheless!

Here is a true banger from Turrican 2. I love how heroic and epic it feels. It's also sort of got a sick dance beat at the same time:

8/10 I liked different phases this theme has, didn't expect it to sound the way it did as it went along. Have to agree about it being a sick dance beat, for some reason I thought of the nightclub scene from the first Terminator when listening to it.
Went with this from Metal Gear 2 as I feel that the soundtrack for the MSX metal gear games need more appreciation

9/10 It's MGS! I'm inherently biased-- It should probably be either a solid 7 or 8 out of 10 but even for the time I think it's very well arranged, it helped define Metal Gear Solid and feels very fitting given the whole theme of the original games. Since we're doing Classic's I'm going to cheat!

.. I'd recommend skipping ahead a little in this one every now and then!

Really good. The Mega Drive/Genesis sound is really cool if you do it right, with all those metallic twangs. It brings to mind those old C64 loader themes where it oftentimes just sounds like a cool jam session.

I had completely different song in mind I was going to link, but I got inspired by that feeling so I'm doing one of my favorite C64 themes:

Impressive. I didn't know the C64 could do that. But I'm a console and arcade gamer, so what do I know? 7.5/10

Now one of the Super Famicom's most striking soundtracks in terms of sound quality and beauty, for the true connoisseur. Especially this track. Powerful and ethereal.
Far East of Eden Zero -31- Animal Gods' Theme (SNES/SFC)

Holy shit that's good, and insanely impressive. I've never heard of this game before but now I'm intrigued!

I finally bought Baldur's Gate 3 this Steam winter sale, and I've been totally addicted to it. Here's a song that stood out to me immediately, I found it to be incredibly beautiful and slightly sad, especially when I read the title. The soundtrack overall has a very old school european fantasy flair to it which I REALLY like:
