I'm trying to get true 240p output on my CRT to have natural scan lines without the wobble of 480i. Here's what I have and my plan:

I'm using a Raspberry Pi 4B with Retropie and I'm going to try to get the resolution to set to 320x240; I read there's a way to do that even though it's not enabled by default. I'm running it through an HDMI to VGA adapter, and that adapter is plugged into a VGA to RCA adapter with controls to stretch the image, etc. and the latter adapter might only output 480i for all I know so I'm not sure it'll even work.

If I can't get true 240p out of what I currently own I'm thinking of getting a MisterFPGA and plugging it directly into my CRT without the need for adapters. Does anyone here own one of those? I've heard good things about the emulation accuracy but haven't bought one yet or learned how to use one. I'm curious how it handles PSX emulation, as the resolution is sometimes 240p and sometimes 480i depending on what the game requests at any given time. For instance, a game may render its polygons in 240p then switch to 480i for the cutscenes. (I'm also curious about if and how that could be handled in Retropie, as you have to specify one resolution in advance)

Any input would be appreciated.

I have a MisterFPGA plugged in to my CRT TV through component. It works pretty well for 240p content. PS1 for me is basically perfect in terms of accuracy.
I have a Raspberry Pi 3 but I've never tried to use with CRT.

I have several Misters running both into a modern display and CRTs. They run flawless as far as I can tell. PSX runs just as if running an actual console.
